Groovy Music, Peace, Love and Ice Cream
Add Far-Out Fun to Woodstock Event
The 4th Annual Woodstock Tribute Weekend, a two day fest planned for July 7 and 8 at the Orange County Market Place, the swap meet at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds, will be sprinkled with the music and vibe reminiscent of the legendary 1969 concert topped off with helpings of ice cream filled activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
Concerts with bands imitating performers from Woodstock include The Who Revue on Saturday which recreates the sounds, the look, and the energy of The Who at their peak including the power vocals and microphone twirling of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend's acrobatic windmills and leaps, Keith Moon's out-of-control drumming and comical antics, and the thundering bass virtuosity of 'The Ox', John Entwistle.
On Sunday, Aquarius, formerly the Summer of Love, a six member band will recreate the actual look , sound and feel, including costume changes, of several
rock legends from 1969’s Woodstock including Janis Joplin, John Fogerty, Sly Stone, Jim Hendrix and Arlo Guthrie to name a few.
Both days, concerts are at noon and 2 p.m.
In addition to music, both days will include free face painting, gourmet food trucks, hippie stilt walkers, giant mural coloring, tie dye vendors, crafters and artisans, Woodstock theme photo stations, Wavy Davy-the Tie Dye Guy (groovy magic and comedy), Hippie Hula Hooping Contests, and Ukulady, who was mentored by the original MC of Woodstock, Wavy Gravy, singing hippie tunes and playing the ukulele.
Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour Restaurants will be holding qualifying rounds for its 3rd Annual Splendiferously Superiffic Summer Spectacular Ice Cream Eating Challenge Championship Event both days during the festival at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Fastest ice cream eaters of psychedelic sundaes advance to the finals to vie for a grand prize of one year’s worth of free ice cream and gigantic trophy. A $20 entry fee, which is also a charitable donation to Make-A-WishÒ and CHOC Children’sÒ , is required. More information on this contest is available at www.farrellsusa.com/challenge.
