The City Choir of Washington is proud to announce the selection of Maestro Murry Sidlin as the recipient of their Excellence in the Arts Award. TCCW has established this award to recognize an individual or group for significant lifetime achievement and contributions to the arts of theWashington, DC area and beyond. The award will be presented at a gala receptionon Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in The Crystal Room of The Willard Intercontinental Hotel.
Maestro Sidlin’s long, illustrious, and eclectic musical career, both as a performer and an educator, includes eight years as Dean of the Catholic University School of Music, and, since 1978, as the resident artist/teacher and associate director of conducting studies at the Aspen Music Festival. His strong connection to The City Choir of Washington has developed over numerous collaborations including Maestro Sidlin's signature multimedia presentation of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín. Many in the City Choir have been privileged to join Maestro Sidlin for performances of DefiantRequiem, including twice at Terezín, and this past October at the Kennedy Center.
Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat, Chairman of the Defiant Requiem Foundation Board, will be delivering remarks at the January 30 event. Ambassador Eizenstat and his wife Fran were the Hosts of the October 6 Defiant Requiem performance at The Kennedy Center in which The City Choir of Washington performed.
