Job Description
As an After-School Teaching Assistant, you will guide the success of middle school students by teaching a pre-written curriculum that will support their entry into a competitive high school.
After-School Teaching Assistant will teach at one of our three program locations:
- Brooklyn: Liberty Avenue Middle School (350 Linwood Street, Brooklyn, NY 11208)
- Bronx: All Hallows High School (111 E 164th Street, Bronx, NY 10452)
- Manhattan: The Town School (540 East 76th Street, New York, NY 10021)
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
- Lead teaching pre-written 7th Grade Writing or 8th Grade High School Options curriculum twice per week to middle school students
- Conducting weekly check-ins with your Program Manager
- Grading student output and tracking student performance
- Complete training, observations, and professional development sessions
- Supporting with logistical aspects of the program and filling in when needed
- Other duties based on the BTNY site which you are assigned
FALL TEACHING ASSISTANT CALENDAR:
- September 6, 11, and 13 from 4-8 p.m.: BTNY Classroom Teaching Trainings
After-School Teaching Schedule:
- 7th Grade Writing TA: Mondays & Wednesdays from September 27th - December 13th (4:00PM-7:00PM)
- 8th Grade High School Options TA: Mondays & Wednesdays from September 27th - December 13th (4:00PM-7:00PM)
Between After-School Teaching Days:
- Check-in with your Program Manager to review the curriculum and receive feedback
- Bi-weekly TA Meetings
- Grading and tracking student work
- 2 Professional Development Sessions with Program Manager (dates agreed upon by TAs and Program Manager)
- December 22: Final day for role
WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO:
- Can demonstrate experience and results with similar responsibilities to those listed above
- Is passionate about forming relationships with students
- Is a current undergraduate or graduate student or a recent college graduate
- Can commit to the entire Fall 2022 term (September 12th - December 14th) and the calendar below
- Is confident with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in particular), Zoom, Google Drive, and comfortable learning new systems

COMPENSATION AND SUPPORT
- Teaching Assistants will be compensated at a rate of $16.00/hour for new hires and $17.00/hour for returners.
Teaching Assistants will also receive ongoing professional development support, including:
- Orientation and training
- Weekly 1:1 supervision
- Professional Development Workshops
- Skill development opportunities in facilitation, teaching, mentorship, relationship building, and professional communication
- Letters of recommendation
