Job Description
The Colin Powell School (CPS) for Civic and Global Leadership is hiring a full‐time Program Coordinator to support the development and launch of the J. Bruce Llewellyn Alumni Development Program. This new initiative will support efforts to connect Colin Powell School alums with one another — for professional networking and community-building — and with the school and its current students in more substantial ways. This position will report to the Manager of Mentoring & Alumni Relations and will be part of the Office of Student Success (OSS). The OSS is critical to supporting students beyond the classroom and engaging alumni. The program coordinator will play a critical role in re-engaging alums of the CPS Fellowship Programs, International Studies Program, Psychology, and Business and Economics alumni.

The Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership includes all of the social sciences at CCNY, as well as the College’s core leadership development and public service programs. Graduating the most CCNY students annually, the Colin Powell School promotes the values of service and engagement. CCNY serves one of the most diverse student populations in the nation. Eighty percent of our students are people of color. More than half are immigrants. More than seventy percent of our students are first-generation college students.
Core responsibilities will include:
- In conjunction with staff, spearhead, plan and execute alumni events, including workshops, happy hours, and panels throughout the year;
- Develop, coordinate, and conduct targeted outreach to Colin Powell School alumni
- Populate and manage a new web platform (Peoplegrove) designed to engage alumni and support mentoring programs;
- Update and amend individual records from information received via a range of sources (emails, alumni website, and general correspondence);
- Create and disseminate regular in-depth Newsletters highlighting alumni accomplishments and current students;
- Oversee student ambassador fellows who will support the program’s outreach and goals;
- Grow and expand the database of alumni contacts, and ensure that the alumni database contains accurate, current, and reliable information on alumni contacts;
- Track progress and assist with reports on the program; and
- Create regular digital and print communications.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree with 2 or more years of experience, ideally in an educational setting;
- Self-starter who can work creatively and independently;
- Skills in tracking their own workflow and meeting deadlines, without frequent reminders from supervisors;
- Capacity to know when to ask questions and for help when necessary;
- Demonstrated commitment to equity based on race, gender, and class; ability to connect with people from historically marginalized identities;
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) and a desire to learn new database and project management software;
- Ability to communicate effectively — including with alumni, students, faculty, and staff — in person and through emails, video/phone calls, and other means;
- Strong attention to detail and quick learner; and
- Excellent writing and public speaking skills
