Job Description
The County Council for Anne Arundel County seeks an Assistant Administrative Officer. The Assistant Administrative Officer is appointed by the County Council and works in the Office of the County Council under the Administrative Officer. The general role of the Assistant Administrative Officer is to provide administrative support to assist the legislative process and assist in keeping records of legislative sessions and public hearings of the County Council. This is an upper management position that is primarily in-office with some opportunity for remote work.
The specific duties of the Assistant Administrative Officer include the following:
• Review and proof all legislation and prepare for introduction
• Work with other Council office staff to ensure a successful legislative process
• Work with other County departments and officials to assist the legislative process
• Attend all meetings of the County Council
• Maintain all legislative files
• Oversee supplementation of the County Code on a regular basis
• Prepare an annual compilation of all laws passed by the County Council
• Assist in maintaining the County Council’s website
• Additional duties as assigned
Successful candidates will have graduated from an accredited two-year or four-year college or university and will have thorough experience working in a government setting. Experience working with Google applications, the Zoom meeting platform, and Microsoft Word is required. Strong analytic and critical thinking skills are also required. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in proofing and formatting legislation or other legal-type documents and/or with experience working with legislation and elected officials.
