Salary Range: $90,000.00 To 110,000.00 Annually
Maryland Legal Aid (MLA)
provides life-changing civil legal assistance to eligible residents in

Job Summary:
Maryland
Legal Aid Training (MLAT) is seeking an attorney with a passion in
nonprofit legal services for the position of Assistant Director of
Training. The Assistant Director (AD) reports directly to the Director
of Training and works with the Director and relevant staff in the
development, facilitation, and delivery of legal trainings, workshops,
and events. The AD will interact with the Chiefs, Directors, Supervising
Attorneys, or training liaisons of each legal unit, office, or task
force. The AD will support the MLAT Director and Instructional Designers
in the creation and delivery of MLAT services with an emphasis on
courses and learning resources within the subject areas of trial and
legal skills. The AD will support the MLAT Director with conducting
needs assessments of each legal unit and in the development of the
curriculum. The AD will not have an active caseload and will devote the
entirety of their time to training projects, facilitation, and research.
The AD may have other duties assigned as training needs may change with
each legal unit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist
- the Director of MLAT in the design, development, facilitation, and/or
- evaluation of legal trainings, learning materials, and courses.
- Coordinate
- with the Director of MLAT, the Task Force Chairs, and all advocacy
- staff at Maryland Legal Aid to identify or research training needs.
- Coordinate
- with Chairs, Directors, and subject matter experts at Maryland Legal
- Aid and elsewhere to stay updated on current legal procedures, changes
- in regulations, and the law and other best practices.
- Assist the
- Director of MLAT in the recruitment and selection of trainers,
- facilitators, and subject matter experts to ensure a diverse and
- qualified pool of instructors and training leaders.
- Collaborate
- with the MLAT team to develop and deliver specialized training content
- tailored to the unique needs of specific staff and clients, including a
- comprehensive trial skills program to provide advanced litigation
- support to staff.
- Assist the Director with the legal training
- calendar by monitoring and updating the training calendar,
- registrations, and other relevant event details as needed.
- Assist
- the Director in annual MLAT training events by being the project
- manager for the New Lawyer Training and upcoming regular trial and legal
- skill trainings for new, progressing, and senior attorneys at MLA.
- Assist
- the Director of MLAT in the assessment and evaluation of learning and
- training resources, with an emphasis on legal and trial skills
- workshops, courses, and events.
- Communicate with other legal
- service providers, organizations, and other potential clients and
- stakeholders in MLAT learning resources and courses for potential
- adoption or coordination of trainings.
- Works with MLA
- leadership to foster an environment of professional excellence,
- collaboration, diversity, and inclusiveness for all educational delivery
- formats.
Qualifications:
- JD Degree, with at least three years of legal or other comparable experience.
- This position requires a current active license in good standing, the State of Maryland Bar preferred.
- Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and captivate diverse audiences.
- Proven experience in implementing and helping develop training programs in a legal or nonprofit context.
- Strong
- project management skills, with the ability to effectively plan,
- organize, and prioritize multiple initiatives simultaneously, while
- meeting deadlines and managing resources efficiently.
Work Environment
Work
duties are typically performed in a general office setting with regular
interaction via email, phone, videoconference, instant message, and in
person. Training work duties will also be performed in community
settings. The individual in this position may have the ability to work
from home two or three days a week after an initial training period and
depending on the in-person needs of the organization.
Benefits
The
salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. In addition, MLA
