Job Title: Assistant Director

Reports to: Executive Director & Chairperson

Location: Albany, NY (with travel across New York State as needed)

Position Type: Full-time, Exempt

Compensation: $55,000

Position Overview:

The New York State Legislative Women’s Caucus is a bipartisan & bicameral coalition of female-identifying legislators committed to advancing policies that empower women, support families, and promote equity across New York State. The Assistant Director will play a critical leadership and coordination role, supporting the Executive Director in strategic planning, legislative engagement, event execution, communications, and coalition-building.

This role requires a highly motivated, mission-driven individual who is deeply passionate about gender equity, public service, and the legislative process.

Key Responsibilities:Legislative & Policy Support

  • Assist in monitoring, tracking, and analyzing legislation related to women’s rights, economic justice, reproductive health, education, caregiving, and related policy areas.
  • Prepare policy briefs, talking points, and reports to support caucus priorities.
  • Coordinate with members and their staff to support legislative advocacy and communications efforts.

Strategic Planning & Leadership

  • Support the Executive Director in developing the Caucus’s strategic plan and annual goals.
  • Help facilitate bi-weekly or monthly Caucus meetings, prepare agendas, and maintain minutes.
  • Serve as liaison between Caucus members, staffers, state agencies, and advocacy groups.

Program & Event Management

  • Assist in the planning and execution of conferences, hearings, public forums, press events, and recognition ceremonies.
  • Manage logistics for events including scheduling, vendor relations, permits, and promotion.

Communications & Outreach

  • Support the creation of press releases, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media, community leaders, advocates, and partner organizations.
  • Help design public awareness campaigns aligned with the Caucus’s mission.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Maintain records, databases, and documents related to Caucus initiatives.
  • Manage correspondence and scheduling for the Executive Director and key Caucus events.
  • Track budgets, expenses, and provide administrative reports when necessary.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Gender Studies, Communications, or related field.
  • experience in legislative affairs, public policy, advocacy, or nonprofit management.
  • Strong writing, research, communication and content creation skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender equity and intersectional advocacy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced political environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with elected officials, state agencies, or legislative bodies.
  • Knowledge of New York State government structure and legislative process.
  • Familiarity with digital media and communications platforms.

Work Environment:

This position is based in Albany, NY, with occasional travel across the state. The Assistant Director must be available for in-person meetings, hearings, and events as needed, especially during the legislative session.
