Associate Director of Advocacy & Public Policy serves as a bridge to connect the advocacy priorities, deep policy and business insights with the content marketing & campaign strategy of our B2B Policy & Influence marketing team. Working collaboratively with leaders from across the teams, the Associate Director of Advocacy & Public Policy will contribute to external content development and strategic partnership evaluation and tracking.
This role requires an accountable individual who is comfortable working in a fast-past environment. The individual must be prepared and willing to collaborate frequently while also being readily able and willing to take on significant independent writing and content development responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop strategy to ensure meaningful & consistent external presence for UnitedHealthcare Community & State
- Search for and secure opportunities to highlight organizational capabilities, policy/advocacy objectives, and leaders through panels, presentations, webinars, etc
- Evaluate and make recommendations for strategic investments including partnerships and sponsorships
- Establish tracking and coordination tools that support transparency, evaluation and coordination of: Partnerships, Conferences, Speakers Bureau, Content Calendar
- Monitor budget and evaluate investments in sponsorships, partnerships, and research
- Participate in content planning & collaborate with subject matter experts to conduct research and develop position papers, blog posts, videos, whitepapers, social media content, etc
- Participate in content distribution/promotion planning including paid, owned, and earned channels
- Use KPIs and stakeholder feedback to develop engaging content programs
- Maintain relationships with Communication Teams, Regional Marketing Teams and Policy Leaders to ensure content calendar aligns with organizational & advocacy priorities and proactively identifies and communicates areas of needed content or opportunity
- Supports C&S Communications team on Executive Presence requests requiring policy talking points and insights

Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Marketing, Political Science, Journalism and Mass Comm or related field
- 7+ years of experience translating highly complex research &/or concepts into content deliverables that can be understood by a variety of audience personas
- 7+ years of experience with professional or academic writing
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office experience - particularly PowerPoint
- Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables and timelines
- Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree - MBA, MPA, MPH, JD
- Experience in public policy, advocacy/lobbying
- Experience in public relations and/or B2B or B2G content marketing & strategy
- Experience working on issues related to Medicaid, Medicare, healthcare or underserved populations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills that are concise and professional
- Desire to be part of a team with strong engagement and a culture of integrity
- Solid strategic and critical thinking skills and ability to challenge status quo with new ideas
- Strong interpersonal, influence and listening skills

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
