About the Role

The Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness (CREC) is seeking a Summer 2026 intern to support its association and network initiatives. This role is ideal for candidates interested in the intersection of economic development, workforce data, and professional engagement.

In addition to research and content development, this intern will play a key role in supporting CREC’s six national associations – helping strengthen member engagement, maintain critical membership systems, and contribute to thought leadership on emerging topics in labor market information and university-based economic development.

Key Responsibilities

Association & Membership Support

  • Assist with membership management across CREC’s six associations, including maintaining accurate member records and databases
  • Support onboarding and engagement of new members, including tracking participation and outreach efforts
  • Help prepare membership reports, summaries, and engagement metrics

Database & Systems Management

  • Maintain and update association contact databases
  • Conduct data cleaning, validation, and organization to ensure accuracy and usability of member databases, Cost of Living Index review, etc.
  • Support integration of membership data with communications and event platforms

Communications & Research

  • Develop and draft content for newsletters, blogs, and email campaigns
  • Support social media and digital outreach efforts to promote association activities and resources
  • Contribute to research and content development on topics such as:
  • Cost of Living Index
  • Labor Market Information (LMI) systems
  • UI wage records and data access
  • University economic development and regional partnerships

Program Support

  • Assist in planning and supporting webinars
  • Help prepare materials such as agendas, speaker briefs, and presentation content
  • Support coordination of member engagement activities

Internship Details

  • Commitment: 40 hours per week
  • Location: Arlington, VA (Rosslyn), 4 days in-person per week
  • Duration: May–August 2026
  • Compensation: $20–23/hour, based on experience

Ideal Candidate

  • Willingness to gain experience in public policy, economics, public administration, communications, or a related field
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical topics for broader audiences
  • Interest in economic development, workforce systems, and data-driven policy
  • Detail-oriented with experience managing spreadsheets or databases
  • Comfortable balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience with CRM systems or membership databases
  • Familiarity with LMI, workforce data, or economic development organizations
  • Experience with content creation (blogs, newsletters, social media)
