About the Campaign
State Rep. Amy Walen is a Democrat running for reelection to the Washington State House in the 48th Legislative District. Her platform is centered around making life more affordable, investing in community safety, and protecting family wage jobs in her district, which includes parts of Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond. She believes in protecting abortion access, reforming our regressive state tax code, building pathways for affordable housing, and preventing gun violence through responsible gun ownership. We are powered by a determined team of professionals, volunteers, and community members who believe in efficient, effective, and accountable government in Olympia.
Job Summary
This internship offers hands-on campaign experience talking directly with voters, collaborating with volunteers, and communicating a strategic message. Interns work closely with campaign professionals to make a direct impact on their community and gain job-ready skills for a career in politics.
Duties
- Assist in planning and implementing campaign strategies across the 48th Legislative District, including door-to-door outreach, event staffing, and tabling.
- Engage with community members through canvassing activities, promoting our initiatives with enthusiasm and professionalism
- Educate voters on Rep. Walen's stances on issues like affordability, public safety and consumer protection
- Drive Get Out The Vote efforts in anticipation of the August Primary and November General Election
- Track and communicate voter sentiments and data to supervisors in a timely fashion using MiniVAN/Votebuilder
Qualifications
- Genuine interest in politics, public policy, or community organizing
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Reliable, self-motivated, and driven
- Listening skills and sensitivity to voter concerns
- Willingness to communicate campaign priorities rather than personal opinions
- Customer service or campaign experience a plus
- Experience with VAN/Votebuilder a plus but not required
- Ability to spend multiple hours a day walking/standing in hot weather
- Familiarity with the district is a plus but not required
Position Logistics
- Location: WA's 48th Legislative District: Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond, WA -- in-person required; day-to-day location flexible
- Hours: 10-20 hours/week; more availability needed in runup to August Primary and November Election Day
- Compensation: Unpaid; Paid opportunities available depending on performance/duration
- Duration: early July 2026 through Election Day, November 3rd, 2026; flexibility based on school schedules is welcomed if communicated in advance
