Job Description

The Temple Law School Center for Compliance and Ethics Postdoctoral Fellowship is a one-year term reporting to Professor Michael Donnella.  As a leading academic center, the Center facilitates innovative educational programming, public-private sector dialogues and academic research and thought leadership.  

The primary responsibilities will be to work with the Faculty Director in the strategic direction and operations of the Center.  The position will require substantial interaction with the Center’s Advisory Board, which consists of senior level attorneys, compliance officers, and executives of major companies, law firms, and non-profits in the region.

The Center’s major activities include periodic Advisory Board meetings, Executive Education, managing publications, International Business and Compliance Certificate Program, Compliance & Ethics course for Temple University Japan, Summer Compliance and Ethics Internships for Temple Law students, Temple Law Compliance and Ethics Practicums, Compliance and Ethics Career Panels, Guest Lecturers for Compliance & Ethics courses, monthly articles for Temple’s 10Q magazine, academic conferences, roundtables and online programs, and fundraising.   

Additional responsibilities include:


• Working effectively with the Center’s Advisory Board (including preparation and outreach for meetings), and displaying appropriate comfort and demeanor in dealing with high-level legal, compliance and business executives generally.


• Supporting Center’s fund-raising efforts.


• Developing appropriate communications, and processes in support of the Center’s mission and strategy.  Enhancing effectiveness of the Center’s collaboration, within the Law School, the University, and with the legal and compliance communities externally.


• Supporting the drafting and delivery of thought leadership publications and other knowledge production.  Working with other members of the Center’s team to develop ideas for articles, and contributing to them on an as-needed basis.


• Managing multiple initiatives, and operating at a strategic level as well as on a specific project basis, with capability to quickly shift from one situation or task to another.  


• Exercising good judgment, paying attention to detail and maintaining ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.  Maintaining ability to handle ambiguity.


• Staying up to date on compliance and ethics trends.


• Communicating clearly to experts and non-experts in compliance and ethics.


Required qualifications include the following skills and experience:


• J.D. from an accredited institution and 1 year of practical experience, which may include work experience as a student.

• Ability to participate in and lead projects involving faculty collaborators, community members, corporations/organizations/agencies, and graduate students. 

• Excellent organization and project management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities/projects.

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

• Ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students, colleagues, and collaborators. 

• A strong commitment to the Center for Compliance and Ethics, including a personal commitment that values and respects diversity in the field. 


Preferred qualifications include the following skills and experience:


• Demonstrated interest in the subject matter of the compliance. 

• Experience with or interest in research and practice.

• Experience with or interest in experiential and co-curricular programs (including as a student).

• Practical experience and/or academic interest in compliance and ethics across industries and disciplines.

• Passion for collaborative teamwork, with strong writing and communication skills.


Fellowship Details


The Fellow will join a small team that meets in-person at least three times per week. Staff have the option to work remotely two days per week. 


The successful candidate will be mentored by Professor Michael Donnella and other University faculty affiliated with the Program.
