Civic Engagement Coordinator

About the Opportunity

The Arab American Civic Council (AACC) is hiring an organizer-first Civic Engagement Coordinator to lead grassroots community organizing, advocacy, coalition building, and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) field campaigns on behalf of the Arab American community. This role builds real, lasting relationships with community members and institutional partners, and translates that organizing into sustained advocacy with elected officials, coalition partners, and community stakeholders. During election seasons, this role shifts focus to lead AACC's MOVE voter engagement program, including recruiting and managing a team of paid canvassers. This is a full-time position reporting to the Executive Director, with regular operational check-ins from the Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Grassroots Organizing

• Build and maintain trust-based relationships with community members, allies, and stakeholders.
• Develop organizing programming, and identify, cultivate, and develop community leaders to advance issues impacting the Arab American community.
• Build long-term organizing infrastructure and a base of engaged community members beyond single campaigns or events.
• Take ownership of rapid response when the community is impacted and requires AACC leadership, proactively drafting statements and proposing action.

Advocacy & Elected Official Engagement

• Own and execute AACC's elected-engagement strategy: quarterly meetings and monthly touchpoints with prioritized federal and state representatives.
• Develop tailored asks for each office in line with AACC community needs and organizational priorities, and track follow-through on commitments made.
• Represent AACC professionally and consistently in policy spaces, in line with organizational strategy and nonpartisan 501(c)(3) guidelines.
• Lead and represent AACC in movement spaces on any and all issues impacting the Arab American community, with immigration as a central and ongoing priority.

Coalition & Partnership Building

• Strengthen relationships with 5+ BIPOC-led cross-movement organizations, Arab faith-based institutions, and direct-service organizations, tailoring outreach strategy to each.
• Represent AACC in coalition spaces and maintain AACC's leading role in statewide coalitions.

Community Mobilization & Volunteer Management

• Run civic education workshops with CBOs, mosques, and churches, and lead 1:1 cultivation meetings with community members.
• Develop and distribute Advocacy 101 toolkits for community members and partners.
• Define volunteer roles and build a sustainable recruitment and retention plan; recruit, train, and lead volunteers for organizing and civic engagement efforts.
• Manage a fellow and/or intern, providing day-to-day supervision and mentorship.

Election Season Field & GOTV Leadership (MOVE Campaign)

• Recruit, orient, and train a team of paid canvassers on GOTV program goals, canvassing scripts, and tools.
• Lead door-to-door canvassing in high-concentration Arab American neighborhoods and/or anti-war voters in key cities.
• Conduct voter registration drives and voter education outreach at mosques, community events, and other community venues.
• Collect pledge-to-vote cards and track progress toward registration and mobilization goals.
• Train and support canvassers on VAN/MiniVAN for voter contact tracking and data entry.
• Coordinate outreach to Arab American businesses and community organizations in program areas.
• Meet all timeline deliverables for the MOVE campaign from August through Election Day.

Skills & Qualifications

• Mid-level experience (roughly 2–3+ years) in grassroots organizing, civic engagement, or field/campaign work, including direct voter contact (canvassing, phone banking, text banking, voter registration), ideally with Arab American, immigrant, or working-class communities.
• Demonstrated experience or strong interest in policy advocacy and relationship-building with elected officials.
• Experience managing and training field staff, canvassers, interns, fellows, or volunteers, including optimizing team and canvass outcomes.
• Proficiency with VAN/MiniVAN or similar voter contact and data management platforms.
• Self-starter who takes initiative and ownership, especially in fast-moving or urgent moments, without needing to be directed; strong attention to data quality.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills; able to set priorities and meet deadlines, including under pressure in a fast-paced campaign environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable representing an organization externally.
• Ability to prioritize organizational strategy and shared goals over individual projects, and to work collaboratively with leadership on priority-setting.
• Bilingual in Arabic and English strongly preferred.
• Reliable transportation to travel throughout Anaheim, Orange County, and surrounding areas as needed.

Position Details

• Position type: Full-time
• Location: Based out of AACC's office in Anaheim, CA with regular travel throughout Orange County and beyond.
• Anticipated start date: As soon as possible. This is a priority hire for the AACC. 
• Reports to: Executive Director (strategic direction), with regular check-ins with the Operations Manager for operational accountability and support.
• Compensation: $50,000 - 60,000 commensurate with experience.
• During election seasons (e.g., MOVE 2026, August-November), this role shifts focus to lead AACC's GOTV field canvassing program, with core organizing and advocacy work scaled back accordingly.
