POSITION OVERVIEW

The GreenLatinos’ Climate Misinformation and Disinformation Fellow will provide GreenLatinos support in executing the GreenLatinos Climate Misinformation and Disinformation program strategy. The GreenLatinos Climate Misinformation and Disinformation program will focus on deepening GreenLatinos work in disinformation by maintaining coalition relationships and building new partnerships. The GreenLatinos Climate Misinformation and Disinformation Fellow will also lead moving research projects to build upon GreenLatinos’ research in the non-English climate misinformation and disinformation space. The GreenLatinos Climate Misinformation and Disinformation Fellow will also work with other GreenLatinos program areas to amplify research findings, host in-person and virtual events, advocate on policy dismantling Spanish Climate Misinformation and Disinformation, and more.

The Climate Misinformation and Disinformation (“Fellow”) will support and execute the GreenLatinos misinformation and disinformation strategy for a growing portfolio of research.

The Fellow will help implement opportunities to elevate the work of the GreenLatinos non-English (primarily Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese) Climate Misinformation and Disinformation program and promote our policy and legislative solutions within the broader environmental movement, among Latine and ally organizations, with federal elected officials, and the Administration. This work will occur per GreenLatinos’ operations, partnerships, and engagement strategies.

We have created this position to help coordinate coalition activities covering corporate campaigns, domestic and international policy initiatives, research, and public communications. The contractor will be housed at GreenLatinos and report to the GreenLatinos Communications Manager.

The Fellow must be a well-organized individual who has experience working with diverse constituencies (communities of color, local justice organizations, businesses, government, foundations, and allied green groups), working in coalition with grassroots and national environmental organizations, and advocating for and implementing fair and equitable partnership practices with these communities.

The Fellow will report directly to the Communications Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Campaign Planning & Program Management - 50%
• Coordinate, plan, manage, and strategize a campaign plan containing new innovative methods to debunk and prebunk climate disinformation and misinformation in non-English speaking communities.
• Project management for leadership team initiatives that range from research to policy to corporate campaigns.
• Campaign writing, message development, and research assistance.
• Administrative assistance with coalition activities.

• Key Partner Coalition Building & Cultivation - 25%
• Coordinate and cultivate CAAD coalition relationships and assist with amplifying their campaign work and GreenLatinos climate disinformation and misinformation work.
• Coordinate and cultivate Spanish Language Disinformation Coalition partnerships to elevate GreenLatinos priorities in non-English speaking disinformation and misinformation work.
• Build relationships with elected officials and their staff to advocate for just tech policies that advance GreenLatinos priorities on the hill.
• Facilitating and participating in all partner and coalition calls and being active in a Slack channel with 100+ members.

• Policy - 15%
• Track tech and related legislation to advance or deter GreenLatinos policy priorities related to climate disinformation/misinformation.
• Determine and execute GreenLatinos public support in advocacy related to non-English climate disinformation/misinformation, including but not limited to signing on to public letters, authorizing GreenLatinos endorsement of legislation, participating as official parties to regulatory proceedings, and tracking such actions through appropriate channels

• Events - 10%
• Assist in the planning and execution of virtual and in-person GreenLatinos non-English climate disinformation/misinformation events
• Provide GreenLatinos members opportunities for in-person/ virtual meetings with elected and appointed officials on priority issues identified by membership
• This position may require some travel if it is safe to do so
• Coordinate and facilitate anti-disinformation/misinformation training for GreenLatinos, staff, and media members.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & TRAITS

• Commitment to GreenLatinos mission
• At least one year of campaign, communications, and organizing experience, preferably in the climate, technology, and/or progressive policy space.
• Experience working effectively with diverse communities and/or experience organizing and mobilizing support for a cause.
• Experience working effectively on environmental and climate justice issues
• Dedication to equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice and centering frontline communities
• Ability to communicate effectively and concisely via writing and verbally
• Must be able to provide your own personal computer and mobile phone for work (financial assistance can be requested where needed)

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

• Spanish and/or Brazilian Portuguese speaking and writing capabilities

COMPENSATION

The annual salary range for this role is $32,000-$40,000 and depends on experience. GreenLatinos also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer paid Dental, Health & Vision benefits, a retirement plan with employer contribution (up to 6% match), all federal holidays off, up to 4 weeks of paid vacation per year, and up to 4 weeks of sick and family leave, on an as-needed basis.
