Overview

Founded in Chicago in 2005, MetroSquash is an after-school, weekend, and summer program that provides transformative, life changing opportunities for underserved youth. In 2015 MetroSquash Woodlawn opened a 21,000 sq./ft. facility with 8 squash courts and classroom space that serves over 400 students and their families each year. This fall, after 13 years of successful programming for public school students on Chicago’s south side, MetroSquash will expand to serve students in Evanston.

The College & Careers Coordinator plays a crucial role in planning and delivering high-quality programming to help students persist through their best fit, postsecondary plan and prepare for career success. The College & Careers Coordinator, along with the High School Coordinator, also helps to ensure the smooth transition of high school seniors to their best fit postsecondary program. The College & Careers Coordinator is supported by and reports to the Director of College & Careers.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support for college students (Y2-Y6), monitoring their academic progress, visiting them on campus once/year, and helping to ensure that they have the resources needed to succeed.
  • Build rapport with college students (Y2-Y6), across the country, to help them persist through, and succeed in, college connecting them to resources, and making referrals as needed.
  • Support students with transitioning to alternative postsecondary programs including, but not limited to, military service, trade school, and/or other credential-earning programs.
  • Update the Director of College & Careers on student college & career interests, status of academic standing, status of financial aid, and additional support needed to ensure 100% of students graduate from their post-secondary institutions.
  • Anticipate, document, and respond to student and departmental needs.
  • Collect, manage, monitor, and present key college academic performance data (ie. semester grades, college portal log-ins, financial aid packages), using Salesforce
  • Plan and lead college access and success programming including workshops, college tours, visits from college representatives, and other similar efforts to prepare high school students, and college students, for postsecondary success.
  • Lead out on department meetings, events, and initiatives as assigned by the Director of College & Careers.
  • Collaborate with the department to advance key priorities including, but not limited to, supporting high school seniors with the college application process, FAFSA completion, and scholarship applications.
  • Work with the MetroSquash Program Team consisting of Academics & Enrichment, Social Work & Supportive Services, and Squash & Fitness to share knowledge and stay abreast of programming outside of College & Career services.
  • Stay abreast of the local and national college access, persistence, and success landscape, ensuring that all programming is top-notch and students are well-prepared for their next endeavor.
  • Provide direct-supervision for up to 2 part-time employees and interns assigned to the College & Careers Department


Qualifications and Qualities:

Candidates should possess the following qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or related field; 2 years of experience supporting students with postsecondary planning; minimum 1 year of experience working in a college or university setting; experience working with traditionally underrepresented youth and their families; proven leadership skills; impeccable attention to detail & work ethic; self-motivation & the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a van required.


Hours: General hours are Monday through Friday 11am-7pm. The position entails weekend work – particularly on Saturdays during the school year, as well as travel to college campuses during the academic year.


Salary: $40,000 - $50,000 Annual Salary


Vacation & Benefits: 15 days vacation and 5 sick days the first year, 20 days vacation in the second year, and 25 each subsequent year. Full health coverage, including dental.
