Salary: $4,167.00 - $5,000.00 per month

Duties Summary
The Office of Senator Stanley Chang is seeking a full-time Committee Clerk to support the Senator’s work at the Hawai‘i State Capitol. As Chair of the Senate Committee on Housing, Senator Chang’s goal as a legislator is simple: he wants to solve Hawaii’s housing shortage. Beyond housing, he seeks to find innovative solutions to some of Hawaii’s most pressing issues. Examples include his work to streamline voter registration, improve mental health support for students, and protect aquatic resources.
This role is ideal for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. The Committee Clerk plays a central role in the legislative process and helps ensure the smooth operation of the Senate Housing Committee.
Key Responsibilities
- Bill Drafting & Review: Assist with bill and committee report preparation
- Legislative Tracking: Monitor housing and non-housing legislation introduced by the Senator
- Testimony Processing: Organize and summarize testimony for committee hearings
- Committee Hearings: Schedule and prepare materials for Senate Housing Committee hearings
- Policy Research: Conduct policy research and draft memos as needed
- Communications & Events: Distribute a weekly housing newsletter (via MailChimp) and assist with event planning, including housing conferences and delegations
- Office Support: Provide general support to the legislative office, including constituent services
Minimum Qualification Requirements
LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK REQUIREMENT: The State of Hawai‘i requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Legislative or administrative experience preferred
- Strong research, writing, and organizational skills
- Excellent time management and communication
- Ability to work flexible hours—including evenings, weekends, and holidays—as needed during the legislative session
