Supervises and coordinates the activities for the Legislative Committee by performing the duties listed below.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs policy research, acts as liaison between Committee and Members, Leadership, Senators, Governor's Office, and the public.
- Conducts legislative research, including drafting legislation, tracking of legislation on the LDPC system.
- Conducts policy research on issues of importance to Committee Members to identify and propose potential new legislative initiatives for introduction as legislation.
- Analyzes bills and amendments, produces reports to Committee Chair and Members.
- Serves as liaison between the Committee and Members, Leadership, Senators, Governor's Office, Executive Branch Agencies, staff and the public as needed.
- Assists with the processing of constituent inquiries by conducting research, drafting response letters, etc. on issues related to the Committee.
- Works with staff and Members to implement strategies for legislative action and public awareness on issues identified by Committee Members.
- Responsible for the maintenance of meeting minutes and other records of the Committee and managing Committee financial matters.
- Assists with media relations by developing press releases, news articles and newsletters regarding Committee issues.
- Performs any other work-related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises daily activities of Research Analysts, Legislative Assistants and other staff assigned to their Committee.
- Trains new Committee employees.
- Approves/disapproves leave requests by Committee staff.
- Completes performance evaluations for Committee staff.
Addresses complaints, informally resolves problems when possible and acts as first line in grievance resolution.
Requires onsite management of team members, staff, and Members, especially during Session. Session essential employees must be physically present at the worksite on Session Days.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; plus one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional favorable consideration will be given for a master’s degree or significant related work experience. Need good knowledge of legislative process, legislative issues and strong legislative research ability.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to Leadership, Members, constituents and public groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
COGNITIVE ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
