The Prince William County Police Department is seeking a skilled, motivated individual for the Communications Support Liaison role. This position primarily serves in an administrative support capacity within the Communications & Public Information Section of the Office of Communications and Engagement, reporting directly to the Chief of Staff for the Chief of Police.
About This Role:
The Prince William County Police Department seeks a communications professional to support the agency’s evolving community service and communication needs, serving as a direct link between law enforcement and those we serve.
Duties Include, but Are Not Limited To:
- Providing responsive and professional communication with residents and partner agencies via email, social media, phone, and in-person interactions
- Supporting community service needs by delivering accurate information and guidance to the public and internal stakeholders
- Managing and maintaining the department’s website and internal SharePoint site, including ensuring ADA compliance
- Creating and distributing internal newsletters and other agency publications
- Developing creative content, including photography and videography, to support departmental messaging
- Assisting with social media strategy and content in a government or public-sector context
- Preparing news releases and other public communications; may serve as or support a spokesperson when needed
- Attending and participating in department, county, and community events, including evenings and weekends
- Supporting office operations and performing other duties as assigned in alignment with the department’s mission
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
- A background in communications, writing, or a related field
- Experience managing social media in a government or public-sector environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a clear, persuasive style

- The ability to work independently and lead without constant direct oversight
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent time management
- Creativity and an ability to adapt to trends and a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Comfort engaging with the public, media, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders
Position is issued a department cell phone, will have access to a county vehicle if needed, and is eligible for operation need pay. Includes flexible work schedule and all full-time benefits, such as retirement and leave.

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 4 years of related experience in public information or administration, community services or engagement, or a related area.
Preferences:
- Experience in a government or professional workplace environment involving public information and/or community engagement services.
- Experience using major social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube).
- Experience in photography/videography and creating content.
- Experience working with websites and SharePoint.
- Experience with meeting ADA compliance mandates.
- Experience writing and preparing press releases and speaking publicly.
- Experience in a community service-driven environment.
- Experience highlighting internal content and accomplishments for publications.
Work Schedule:
This is an exempt status position. This position requires in-office presence. There is a limited teleworking option that may be available once the candidate is off probationary period and deemed applicable by their supervisor. Work schedule typically follows Monday-Friday within normal County operating hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and may include the need for flexibility after hours and/or weekends for events or other department needs.
Starting Salary Range: $78,971.58 - $92, 907.75
