Congressmember Judy Chu (CA-28) seeks an experienced Communications Director based in her Washington office to lead a robust press and communications operation.
The Communications Director will serve as the Member’s primary speechwriter and will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive press and communications strategy. This position is part of the office’s senior staff and will be responsible for managing a Press Secretary and Staff/Press Assistant.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Drafting and editing speeches, talking points, press releases, and op-eds
- Coordinating with press and preparing and staffing the Member for interviews
- Developing and carrying out a mass communications strategy
- Overseeing digital communications including social media, graphics, and videos
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with national and local reporters and producers
- Working closely with both district and DC staff
This position is intended for experienced communications staff who work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced setting, and will contribute to a positive and supportive work environment as part of a close-knit team. Strong writing and editing skills are a must. Candidates with experience working in a congressional office are strongly encouraged to apply.
