Job Description
The Office of Congressman Lou Correa (CA-46) seeks a self-starting, experienced, and creative Communications Director to join his Washington, D.C. office and lead a fast-paced communications team. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with beltway + California press and the House franking process, and will work closely with the District Director, Legislative Director, and Chief of Staff to ensure successful execution of the Congressman’s messaging priorities and outreach efforts at home in Orange County and in Washington. This position is based out of the Congressman’s Washington, D.C. office and will report to the Chief of Staff.
This position will also be the direct supervisor of a Press Assistant/Press Secretary. This is not an entry-level position.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Serve as the Congressman’s chief spokesperson and media liaison;
- Develop and implement strategic communications plans for the office, including working closely with the legislative team to develop media strategies to roll out legislation, send letters, and make other major announcements;
- Successfully and consistently pitch the Congressman to local and national TV, radio, and print media on issues consistent with his priorities;
- Prepare for, brief, and staff the Congressman for media interviews, press conferences, roundtables, and other engagements;
- Draft talking points, speeches, press releases, op-eds and other materials, as necessary, and in the Congressman’s voice;
- Oversee management of the Congressman’s website, newsletter, robust paid and franked tri-lingual constituent outreach efforts;
- And more.

- 2-3+ years of communications experience
- Strong commitment to the Congressman’s mission and values
- Excellent organization
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Great writing skills
- Discretion with sensitive information
- California ties (preferred)
- Spanish language proficiency (preferred)
- Vietnamese language proficiency (a plus!)
