Communications Division (Multiple Roles)

Calling all comms aficionados! The Task Force for Democracy is welcoming applications to our growing Communications Division to coordinate our digital presence, media, and public relations efforts. We are looking for creative & self-motivated candidates passionate about strategic communications, digital organizing, and collaborating with a grassroots nonprofit team to shape the Task Force’s public perception. Open Roles:

Press Relations Team

Press Secretary

• Our primary spokesperson and point of contact for media inquiries, ensuring our messaging is precise and consistent with our narrative
• Leads Press Team to get necessary tasks accomplished

Press Relations Specialists

• Draft press releases and statements on behalf of the organization
• Curates, expands, and writes advisories for our press list

Newsletter Team

• Writes & coordinates weekly delivery of our newsletter to share campaign updates, plug-ins for actions, and news about progress/challenges we encounter
• Maintains and expands newsletter email list
• May include light graphic formatting

Social Media Team

• Builds our social presence across platforms (including, but not limited to: Instagram, Twitter, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.)
• Collaborates across teams to draft short & long-form written content to post on our socials in line with brand voice
• Collaborates where applicable with the Multimedia team to write detailed scripts for long-form video content used in campaigns, fundraising, issue awareness, and beyond
• Completes communication assignments from campaign leads and President
• Monitors federal and state affairs to guide content creation

Multimedia Team

• Photographs Task Force events and completes individual photography assignments
• Plans, produces, and edits professional-quality videos covering issues, events, and actions
• Works with Social Media team as needed

Responsibilities Across Roles

• Grasp of contemporary political and democracy-related matters.
• Develop and implement effective communications strategies that support our pro-democracy initiatives.
• Monitor and analyze media coverage related to democracy, student organizing, and authoritarian threats to student rights — adjusting strategies based on emerging trends and ensuring our messaging remains consistent.
• Track and analyze digital performance, using insights to improve strategies and strengthen outreach.

Requirements

• Majoring in, or completed a degree in, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Film & Media Production, Political Science, or a related field OR multiple years of experience in communications divisions of political organizations, advocacy, or similar settings.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
• Proficiency with communications technologies, including media monitoring tools, social media platforms, and content management systems.
• Able to commit 5-10 hours per week to this role.

About the Task Force for Democracy

We’re a youth & volunteer-led team organizing students across 6 campaigns to demand a democracy that works for our generation — not billionaires & corporations! We work alongside movement partners to center young people in the fight against advancing autocracy.

We’re nonpartisan. We don’t do electoral politics. And we stay focused on ending the root causes of inequality in our democracy.

We know that true democracy cannot only exist at the ballot box, but must be present in the workplace, and in our education. Our campaigns aim to end structural inequality across different areas of our democracy, and include: fighting voter suppression & money in politics, organizing students under autocracy, stopping a dangerous constitutional convention that would roll back our rights, using transparency laws to hold power accountable, and more!
