Communications, Marketing, & Media Relations Manager

 


Position Summary


 The Communications, Marketing & Media Relations Manager coordinates the association’s overall communications efforts and serves as a central point of contact for media relations, member communications, and the management/oversight of vendors that support external communications. This role supports the association’s overall communication efforts by ensuring communications are accurate, timely, and aligned with organizational strategy, while standardizing messaging, tone, and institutional voice.

Key Responsibilities


Media Relations Coordination & Oversight


  • Coordinate implementation of the association’s media advocacy and communications approach in alignment with established priorities.
  • Coordinate external, public-facing responses with subject-matter experts, executive leadership, and vendors assisting with communications efforts, as appropriate.
  • Oversee and manage external public relations and communications vendors, including defining scopes of work, setting expectations, and reviewing externally produced materials for accuracy, consistency, and alignment with association positions.
  • Monitor media coverage and emerging issues and develop strategies for engagement.


Digital & Social Communications Governance


  • Directly manage and execute the association’s digital and social media presence, ensuring consistency of tone, messaging, and brand voice across all platforms.
  • Develop, publish, and monitor content for the association’s social media channels, and manage day-to-day engagement in coordination with organizational priorities.
  • Manage and maintain all content on the association’s website, including homepage and Newsroom materials, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, consistency, voice and alignment with association positions.
  • Manage graphic designer relationship and graphic design needs of CBA team


Member & Internal Communications


  • Oversee production of core member communications, including weekly and monthly emails, daily news briefings, annual report, membership and scholarship guides, and quarterly value-of-membership summaries.
  • Oversee editorial content and manage all aspects of producing quarterly CaliforniaBanker magazine and draft or review the President & CEO’s association updates.
  • Prepare or coordinate preparation of remarks, talking points, and presentations for the President & CEO and senior leadership.


Cross-Functional Coordination


  • Work closely with government relations, membership, education, events, and senior management to ensure communications are aligned, accurate, and timely.
  • Provide communications coordination and support for advocacy campaigns, legislative sessions, and issues management, consistent with direction from leadership.
  • Support organizational initiatives, including the annual dues billing process and the association’s scholarship program, by coordinating related communications.
  • Draft and finalize all scripts for CBA events
  • Build relationships and coordinate with member communications team
  • Develop and manage association advertising opportunities
  • Oversee and schedule advertising for CBA collateral and support and track associate member advertising benefits to ensure delivery of benefits


Marketing


·      Collaborate with the relevant CBA teams to strategically plan and schedule a diverse array of marketing programs to support all association initiatives. These initiatives encompass the promotion of professional programs, education programs, and association priorities.


·      Implement and manage annual marketing calendar


·      Proactively create and implement marketing campaigns for events, education, and other activities and priorities of the association


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, political science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, media relations, public affairs, or advocacy
  • Experience overseeing external vendors or consultants
  • Strong writing, editing, and editorial judgment skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in politically sensitive environments
