Community Development Manager
Reports to: Development Director
Salary: $65,000 per year
Employment Classification: Full Time, Exempt
Overview
The Community Development Manager reports to the Development Director and leads organization-wide volunteer engagement and marketing/communications efforts, while supporting community engagement initiatives that advance the affiliate’s mission.
Responsibilities
Community Development & Engagement
● Recruit, schedule, and coordinate individual, group, and corporate volunteers
● Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteer and community service inquiries; provide ongoing communication, support, and guidance to encourage return engagement.
● Plan and deliver volunteer orientations and on-site hospitality/logistics.
● Maintain volunteer systems and records (volunteer software, photos, participation data); track outcomes, identify issues, and provide timely activity/statistical reports.
● Coordinate with departments to align volunteer participation with program needs, including support for partner-family sweat equity hours.
● Represent the affiliate at community outreach events to recruit volunteers; organize and participate in volunteer recruitment and recognition programs/events; develop related materials.
● Submit and monitor internship positions; report updates to the appropriate manager.
● Support community engagement strategy by identifying opportunities aligned with community priorities and available resources.
Marketing & Communications
● Capture photo/video content at construction sites, volunteer days, events, and properties; assist with filming, editing, and distribution across channels.
● Create and coordinate production of marketing and informational materials to support affiliate events, programs, and operations.
● Write and distribute press releases and media alerts; maintain an up-to-date press list; track coverage and outcomes.
● Organize press conferences and interview opportunities; prepare press packets; liaise with media during events and program activities; post events on community calendars.
● Maintain strong knowledge of affiliate programs and communicate about them effectively, supporting education and advocacy related to affordable housing.
● Follow and steward Habitat for Humanity International brand guidelines; respond to and coordinate media contact requests.
Skills & Experience
● Skilled communicator with excellent verbal, written, proofreading, and editing skills.
● Strong etiquette in interfacing with community leaders as a Public Relations representative for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh
● Skilled in photography and videography for social media and marketing communications.
● Competency in Microsoft Office and Canva with an ability to learn new programs.
● Experience working with brand guidelines to build cohesive messaging and branding.
● Results and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and juggle multiple priorities and projects.
● Ability to deliver quality products on tight deadlines.
● Excellent presentation skills and ability to express ideas verbally and in writing.
● Knowledge and experience in the Hudson Valley community is preferred.
● A bachelor’s degree is preferred (preferably in Communications, Marketing, or related field).

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
This position requires:
● The ability to safely navigate and photograph active construction sites and indoor and outdoor events
● The ability to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
● Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
● Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one work site to another.
● Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
● Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
● Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
