Community Engagement Manager, Office of Government Relations and Community Engagement - Georgetown University


Georgetown's Office of Government Relations and Community Engagement helps to fulfill our commitment to the common good in the District of Columbia and the metropolitan region. The office supports the university's growth and economic development efforts, including master planning; facilitates and develops relationships with community organizations, local governments, and civic organizations; supports community-based research and scholarship; and strengthens the university's partnership with our neighbors.


The Community Engagement Manager works with the Office of Government Relations and Community Engagement to advance the mission of Georgetown University at the local level by supporting and developing strategic partnerships with the DC community of residents, local government, and organizations. They support the Associate Vice President for Local Government and Community Engagement as the team that serves as the University's primary resource and support on matters related to local government and community engagements in the District of Columbia. The team also serves as the liaison between the University and administrative and legislative branches of local governments, as well as key local community and business entities.


The Community Engagement Manager also collaborates with other members of GRACE, under the Vice President for Government Relations and Community Engagement, in order to implement and strategically align cross-campus stakeholders through networking, program development and communications. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Local Government and Community Engagement, the Community Engagement Manager has duties that include but are not limited to:


Engagement


Assist the AVP in development of strategic partnerships with a diversity of local stakeholders from government, non-profit or business organizations, and the DC community

Liaise, support and implement (as needed) initiatives and anchor partnerships with key University stakeholders, including faculty/staff, students and academic centers

Advance through strategic engagements, the University's mission and commitment to the common good


Research and Analysis


Monitor news, social media, and other sources regarding local policy priorities, program developments, and relevant resources

Conduct general research and analysis regarding active and potential partnership areas


Local Community Support


Participate in local community meetings for issues affecting the University

Serve as a resource and intermediary between members of the University community and DC government agencies on matters related to University operations


Record Keeping


Maintain and ensure the accuracy of a well-organized record keeping system in areas that may include compliance with local lobbying requirements, relevant University correspondence, stakeholder contacts, and any financial matters


Event Development and Support


As needed, participate in planning and execution of events related to local policy and community engagement


Qualifications


Bachelor's degree

At least 3 to 5 years of local government or non-profit program development experience

Ability to think strategically and work as a member of an entrepreneurial team

Self-motivated and highly organized, with careful attention to detail, demonstrated judgment skills, and a willingness to take initiative

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent writing, presentation, and speaking abilities

Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships in the context of a complex organization

Ability to manage time and workload effectively - including planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details

Proficiency in Microsoft Office - including Word and Excel - and Google Workspace

Availability and willingness to work evening and weekend events as needed


Preference for candidates with demonstrated experience in program development and partnership building with local governments and/or organizations, particularly in the District of Columbia.
