The City of San Pablo is actively seeking candidates for THREE (3) Community Services Coordinator I/II positions to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate a variety of recreation programs including preschool, youth and teen programs, senior programs, special events, sports programs, and general activities and services within the Community Services Department.
About the position: Reports to Community Services Supervisors. The Coordinator is responsible for program development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of a variety of recreational and enrichment programs, located at various locations throughout the City. Plan and implement all necessary operational components for each program including purchasing supplies, marketing, registration, organizing leagues and other schedules, booking facilities and trips, and communicating with patrons. Prepare budget recommendations for assigned areas and control and monitor expenditures against approved budgets, including responsibility for financial accountability of program areas, and attend meetings of professional recreation organizations. The Coordinator will take the initiative to improve program delivery methods; lead program-level evaluation; and select, train, monitor, schedule, and supervise, part-time staff, contract staff, and volunteers. In addition, the ideal candidate will be able to prepare, track and monitor contracts; and perform a variety of standard office duties such as answering phones, data entry, etc. Responsibilities may include some evening, weekend, and holiday assignments. Minimum qualifications & Requirements
Education and Experience: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in community services management, recreation, education, child or youth development, social work, or a related field.
Experience: Two (2) or more years of demonstrated responsible professional recreation, sporting, enrichment, and/or youth development experience, including some responsibility for directing the work of part-time staff, contractors, and/or volunteers.
License and Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid California Driver’s License. First aid, CPR, and safety protocols and relevant policies, rules and procedures related to area of assignment, and California Park and Recreation Society Certification is highly desirable.
