Job Description

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission is hiring a Congressional Affairs and Communications Assistant.

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic, creative, and ambitious person early in their career who wants to help influence congressional, media, and broader policy discussions around some of the most consequential issues of the day. Under the direction of the Director of Congressional Affairs and Communications, the position offers a unique opportunity to shape the Commission’s engagement with Congress, external stakeholders, and the public through legislative affairs, strategic communications, and outreach efforts.

Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Congressional engagement: Build relationships with Members of Congress and staff, prepare Commission staff to brief offices on the Commission's work, and track relevant hearings, markups, and legislative activity.
  • Hearing and research support: Help plan and execute Commission hearings and support research by analyzing legislation and identifying engagement opportunities.
  • Policy analysis: Research the policy landscape to refine and sharpen Commission recommendations, and draft briefing materials and talking points.
  • Strategic communications: Develop outreach initiatives (podcasts, videos, panels, universities) to amplify the Commission's visibility and policy impact.
  • Digital and media presence: Manage digital content across social media, website, and newsletters, monitor media coverage, and support press and interview coordination.
