Position Overview

The mission of the Office of School Improvement and Supports (OSIS) is to ensure we support our schools and our students to succeed and to meet the Goals of our Strategic Plan. The Office works to dramatically accelerate the number of excellent schools through school transformation, including design, partnerships, Connected Schools, and Comprehensive School Planning (CSP). The Office develops, aligns, and delivers high-quality supports to ensure students, particularly students furthest away from opportunity, are in school, able to engage in rigorous learning, and have a joyous educational environment. The Office ensures our schools have excellent leaders, educators, and staff who are prepared to meet the diverse needs of the young people we serve.

OSIS programs include the following:

School Improvement

  • School Performance: Promotes data-driven decision-making through an aligned system of continuous improvement designed to move schools toward a consistent standard of excellence.
  • Design: Designs excellent school models that transform learning for our students furthest from opportunity by anchoring in data, community engagement and understanding, and elevating and integrating student voice.
  • Partnerships: Develops and advances strategies and resources for schools and the district to maximize partner and community impact on student and school success.
  • Student Empowerment & Equity: Advances diversity and equity for students, with an emphasis on student-focused programming elevating student voice.

Student Supports:

  • School Mental Health: Ensures that students' behavioral and social-emotional needs are met to increase access to the curriculum.
  • SEL and School Culture: Ensures that schools have the resources to provide a safe and supportive learning environment where all students are able to thrive academically and socially.
  • Student Placement: Ensures that schools have the necessary supports to address the needs of the whole child and create conditions where all students are ready to learn.
  • Health and Wellness: Ensures that all students are healthy and are supported with the appropriate services and accommodations to support their wellness and continued learning.

Talent Development:

  • Talent Acquisition: Advances talent development through an equity lens. Ensures we recruit, select, hire, and retain great people.
  • Leadership Development: Ensures leaders are prepared at each stage of their career with the full complement of skills and capacities necessary to guarantee student and school success.

IMPACT:

  • IMPACT Operations: Supports the daily implementation of both Staff and School Leader IMPACT. The team ensures IMPACT policy is followed with fidelity and manages a helpline where staff can reach out with questions.
  • IMPACT Align: Ensures all evaluators have the tools they need to accurately and consistently apply the DCPS classroom observation rubric (the Essential Practices) when evaluating teacher practice.
  • IMPACT Design: Gathers and responds to feedback from DCPS leadership and staff, and uses this feedback to consider possible IMPACT design changes for the future. The team also liaises with other states, districts, education groups, and researchers to learn from the best practices and lessons learned in the field of staff and school leader evaluation.


The School Leader and Teacher Talent Acquisition team is responsible for the design and implementation of DCPS’s rigorous recruitment and selection processes for principals, assistant principals, teachers, and educational aides to identify the best potential candidates to support student growth. The team manages DCPS's teacher pipelines, including strategic partnerships with local universities and teacher preparation programs. The team also supports initiatives to retain effective educators throughout the district.

The Coordinator, Teacher Selection & Analytics is responsible for ensuring key elements of the teacher selection process are implemented with fidelity by supporting candidates and other key stakeholders. The Coordinator has the opportunity to analyze key recruitment and selection data to help the team make strategic decisions. The Coordinator's work also supports the DCPS goal of ensuring that all students receive a high-quality education and are prepared for college, career, and life.

The Coordinator, Teacher Selection & Analytics will report to the Manager, Teacher Selection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports the Teacher Recruitment and Selection team in implementing an aggressive and innovative national strategy for recruiting outstanding teachers to join DCPS.
  • Conceptualizes, formats, and automates the creation of school and district-level reports for a variety of audiences, including principals, leadership teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Writes and presents key findings from analysis to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintains weekly, monthly, and yearly progress monitoring documents tracking towards key recruitment and selection metrics.
  • Liaises with other divisions and offices to develop appropriate systems and structures for the collection, storage, and dissemination of recruitment, selection, and teacher effectiveness data.
  • Fulfills ad hoc data requests for other offices requesting recruitment & selection data for teachers and/or educational aides.
  • Builds relationships with school leaders, teachers, and district staff to develop a deep understanding of the unique needs and cultures in schools across the district.
  • Helps to facilitate the seamless, efficient execution of the teacher selection process, including supporting logistics for application screening, phone and in-person interviews, and teaching auditions in order to select approximately 600 outstanding teaching candidates from approximately 4,000 applicants.
  • Serves as Teacher Recruitment and Selection team superuser for Salesforce.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two to four years of related work experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
  • Specific experience in recruitment and selection preferred.
  • Experience analyzing large datasets and proficiency using a statistical software program, like STATA, preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, including key attention to detail, and the ability to adhere to strict deadlines.Ability to work independently and be a self-starter, while collaborating with others on meeting common goals.
  • Focus on outcomes, willingness to work as hard as necessary, and ability to work non-standard hours to achieve program and district-level goals.
  • Exceptional writing and oral communication skills.Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office Suite.
