Senior Court Reporter
Baltimore Witness
We are looking for a seasoned crime/court reporter to lead the court reporting for a new website - Baltimore Witness. The site is a sister site to the successful D.C. Witness website that has brought unprecedented transparency to the D.C. criminal justice system.
This position has a chance for the right individual to make a difference, bringing transparency and actionable data on which meaningful criminal justice reform can be based.
Baltimore Witness will track, report on and gather data related to violent crimes starting with homicides and non-fatal shootings.
Responsibilities of position:
● Report on cases within the Baltimore Criminal Justice system
● Establish relationships with court employees and legal officials inside the Circuit Court for Baltimore City
● Collect information to create a court calendar with daily and weekly hearings
● Develop an information flow strategy to report on felony cases from the court system
● Lead team of court reporters for Baltimore Witness
We are looking for that right person who wants to be part of something new, join a small, tight-knit team, and implement our proven methodology of providing unbiased transparency.
Baltimore Witness will gather all public information, and, by placing trained reporters in courtrooms, verify and enhance that data.
Baltimore Witness will also work with researchers and policy-makers, providing our data to support their research and policy-making.
We are non-partisan and non-advocacy. We report on every development in every case without offering opinions. We track the data on crime reduction policies and provide basic data analysis without offering conclusions.
Qualifications:
● Interest in the Baltimore criminal justice system
● 2-3 years of news reporting experience
