San Francisco Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District, a non-profit dedicated to the preserve, advance, and promote San Francisco's Leather & LGBTQ culture as a resource and as a culturally and commercially enriched neighborhood and district, is hiring a Cultural District Manager. About the Job:
Reporting to the Board President, the District Manager will have operational responsibility for the San Francisco Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District (“the District”) programs, expansion and execution of its mission and vision. This position represents an opportunity to further develop contacts with city government and agencies as well as community stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Board to carry out the mission and vision of the District
- Collaborate with the Board on strategic planning
- Represent the District at public, governmental and various meetings
- Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including leather and LGBTQ+ businesses in the District, to strategically advance the District's mission.
- Develop communications and marketing strategies in collaboration with committees.
- Review and implement District-wide marketing and communications strategies, engagement tools, and procedures, including initiation and management of daily social media communications.
- Maintain District Calendar and meeting schedules.
- Develop and implement concepts for annual events including our Launch Event.
- Work with committees to develop small to medium sized community event concepts.
- Implement community events such as artist shows, maker pop-ups, etc.
- Oversee the development and implementation of the Cultural History, Housing, and Economic Sustainability Strategies Report (CHHESS) working closely with Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development and City and County of San Francisco Staff.
- Facilitate communication flow between the Board, staff, and committees
- Attend all Board and some committee meetings, providing all information necessary for the Board to make timely informed decisions
- Supervise administration of the Cultural District’s grants and contracts, corporate reporting, maintenance of records and office systems
- Coordinate grant writing
- Develop and coordinate fundraising initiatives, including capital campaign for a Community Center.
- Work with the board to determine space needs and strategy to purchase a building for a Community Center.
- Monitor developer activity in the District and coordinate with the Land Use committee.
- Coordinate with our committees and City agencies on public art and placemaking strategies in the District.
- Coordinate with our committees and developers on concept development and execution of public improvement plans.
- Develop and manage program tracking and evaluation processes.
- Manage contract and project deliverables and reporting.
- Oversee contractors, consultants, volunteers, and vendors.
Qualifications:
- Align with the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District’s Mission and Vision
- Proven track record of organizational leadership and management
- Attention to detail and ability to manage time effectively
- Strong analytical skills and ability to describe complex issues in clear, concise terms
- Demonstrated ability to achieve strategic objectives
- Experience with Leather and/or LGBTQ communities, both preferred
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders
- Knows the SOMA neighborhood, its history, and relevant community issues.
- Public speaking/presentation experience
- Familiarity with city resources, agencies, and politicians preferred, not required
- Event management experience preferred
- Experience in program development and implementation
- Budget management skills, including preparation, analysis, and reporting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Nonprofit experience preferred
- Knowledge of fundraising strategies
- Grant writing and grant management experience preferred
- Effective negotiation and mediation skills
- Patience, emotional intelligence, sensitivity working in a community
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Familiarity with social media platforms preferred, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
- Familiarity with CiviCRM or other membership database is a plus, not required
- Familiarity with Wordpress preferred, not required
- Preferred Bachelor’s Degree
- Proficient with computer applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
