About the position
We are currently seeking applications from peoples with diverse backgrounds and experience to fill key locally engaged positions. An active order of merit will be created and maintained for 18 months to fill current and future vacancies.
These positions are responsible for monitoring, analysing, and advising on policy, public affairs, and sports diplomacy issues in the Consulate’s region of responsibility that intersect and may impact Australian interests. These roles support advocacy efforts to deliver on Australian interests. A key focus of these positions will be providing policy advice and reporting on issues and developments relevant to Australia.
This position is responsible for assisting in the delivery of outcomes from the Australian Government’s Sports Diplomacy Strategy 2032+. This includes monitoring, analysing and advising on sports diplomacy issues within the Consulate’s region of responsibility that intersects with and may impact Australian interests. The Sports Diplomacy Officer will help deliver the Consulate’s increased support for global sports events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the LA28 Olympics and Paralympics, and the annual Las Vegas National Rugby League (NRL) event. The position will lead the delivery of key sports diplomacy activities and visits. A key focus of the position will be providing policy advice and reporting on issues and developments relevant to Australia. The position will be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel outside of Los Angeles at short notice.
We offer a flexible workplace, however, options for remote work are not available.
Remuneration package
Salary
USD $75,672 - $99,276. Please note – new starters commence at base of salary range.
Performance Management
Locally engaged staff engaged in an ongoing or fixed term capacity are eligible to participate in the performance management system. Staff who are employed on 31 March, are preforming at the required levels, and have worked in the role for at least 100 working days are eligible to receive a salary advancement of one increment OR a bonus of two percent if at the top of their level.

- Please note that A2 visas are valid for a period of 5 years and are non-renewable. Also, accompanying dependants of LES A2 visa cannot request work authorisation in the United States.
Additional Information
This position requires a probity check to be completed. Employment in the advertised position is dependent on the employee having or acquiring a valid DFAT probity check. Probity checks can take some time to process, and employment cannot be commenced until an appropriate check is confirmed. There is no guarantee that the successful candidate for the position will be successful in obtaining a probity check. The inability to obtain a probity check prevents that applicant from being employed and loss of a probity check at any time will lead to termination of employment.
