Job Description

The Governor’s Office of Energy Development (OED) is seeking a Deputy Director to join our team. Under the direction of the Executive Director and Governor’s Energy Advisor, the Deputy Director will support OED’s mission to advance the Governor’s energy vision, implement state energy policy and enhance Utah’s energy infrastructure, technology and workforce to provide more affordable, reliable and cleaner energy options for Utah households and businesses. This is a flexible position with a combination of in-person and telework options.

Principal Duties

Oversee day-to-day efforts to carry out the strategic mission of the organization

Provide support for state strategic energy planning efforts

Support efforts to attract strategic energy investment to Utah

Track legislation and provide legislative analysis for energy-related policy issues

Track and provide analysis on energy regulatory issues

Coordinate with stakeholders in other state agencies, NGOs and the private sector

Prepare presentations and talking points on energy issues

Produce reports and technical documents as needed

Supervise and collaborate with OED staff

Review and approve staff work products

Develop and promote a positive office culture

Design systems to capture and maximize metrics

Oversee a number of day-to-day operations

Optimize workflow across the organization

The Ideal Candidate

Knowledge of Utah’s energy landscape

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Bachelor's degree, master’s degree preferred

Supervisory or management experience
