Position Overview
The Development Associate serves as the team’s primary support, helping Mercado Global reach its fundraising goals and marketing benchmarks. The position reports into and works closely with the organization’s Development Manager. This role is responsible for providing crucial support in donor management, database management, marketing and campaigns, and development operations.
Mercado Global seeks a Development Associate who is enthusiastic about the opportunity to help expand a cutting-edge model for fighting poverty and empowering women in rural Latin America. They should have strong self-initiative and leadership capabilities, interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, excitement for learning the ins and outs of development and marketing, and a passion for our mission and work.
This position provides fundraising and communications enthusiasts with the opportunity to work with our network of donors, our talented team in Guatemala, and the Indigenous women we serve. This position is ideally based at our field office in Panajachel, Guatemala, but remote work inside Guatemala is possible. This position reports directly to the Director of Manager, who is based in Panajachel.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Partnerships
- Manage corporate partnership pipeline, including identifying new potential corporate partners
- Help implement corporate partnership engagement plan, including the planning of in person and virtual events
- Support the Development Director’s work with the Special Projects Committee focused on corporate partnerships
- Manage the Development Departments involvement in the Corporate Sales program
Grants
- Work closely with Development Manager and Community-Based Education team to monitor and support grant implementation process
- Support in the grant reporting process, including the collecting and rolling up of key information to the Development Manager
Events
- Support logistics and coordination for small events
- Manage sponsors and in-kind donors as assigned
- Manage logistics and support for two annual events in San Francisco and New York
Operations
- Manage Mercado Global’s junior board, the Impact Council
- Draft communications for development team members
- Draft e-blasts and copy for development team communications
- Create reports to support fundraising planning and projections
Key Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree
- Enthusiasm for Mercado Global's mission
- Proficiency in written and spoken English & Spanish required
- Development work experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to move multiple projects forward simultaneously
- Excellent planning, critical thinking, and organizational skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to top-quality, self-driven work
- Ability to work in a team setting and communicate effectively
- Knowledge of SalesForce (or other CRM) a plus
