Why This Role Matters
The Communications & Development Assistant is a vital member of our Development & Communications team, supporting fundraising, marketing, special events, and donor relations. This is a junior, entry-level role perfect for:
- Recent college graduates with strong writing and computer literacy skills

You’ll gain hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, marketing, and communications while helping us expand our impact across New York City.
What You’ll Do
You’ll wear many hats, but always with support and mentorship. Key responsibilities include:
Administrative & Department Support
- Process donations, manage donor records, and prepare thank-you letters
- Assist with meeting materials, reports, and finance reconciliation
- Organize files, photos, and press clips in SharePoint
Communications & Marketing
- Capture photos at events for social media posts, newsletters, and reports
- Help produce flyers, signage, and program collateral
- Support newsletters, Board Engagement Reports, and the Annual Report
- Serve as a CBN brand ambassador, spotting engaging content opportunities
Digital Tools & Website
- Update calendars, menus, and news items on our website (Squarespace a plus)
- Support email campaigns (Constant Contact) and design projects (Canva)
- Manage Zoom accounts and assist with virtual meetings
Events & Fundraising
- Assist with special events and volunteer activities
- Support major campaigns like Giving Tuesday, Annual Campaign, and NYRR Half Marathon Fundraiser, and Young Professionals Council events.
- Collaborate with event partners, consultants, and corporate volunteer groups
Research & Special Projects
- Conduct research to strengthen fundraising and communications strategies
- Provide backup support for agency-wide marketing initiatives
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree (or AA with relevant experience) Strong writing, proofreading, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with donor databases (DonorPerfect preferred)
- Comfort with digital tools (Constant Contact, Canva, Squarespace a plus)
- A proactive, flexible team player with a positive attitude
- Interest in nonprofit communications, fundraising, or aging services
