Development Coordinator

Organization: Literacy Council of Frederick County

Location: Frederick, MD

Hours: Part-Time (20–32 hours/week), non-exempt position, flexible schedule, some remote hours

Reports to: Executive Director

Wage Range/Benefits: $25-28/hour, Simple IRA with up to 3% employer match, paid parking

Position Summary

The Literacy Council of Frederick County seeks a mission-driven, detail-oriented Part-Time Development Coordinator to support fundraising, donor engagement, and community partnerships. This role is essential to advancing our mission of empowering adults through literacy and workforce development by strengthening the organization’s funding base and community presence.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Development Support

  • Assist in the execution of the organization’s annual fundraising plan
  • Support donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts
  • Research and identify prospective donors, sponsors, and partners
  • Assist in grant prospecting, proposal preparation, and reporting

Donor Relations & Database Management

  • Maintain accurate donor records in the CRM system
  • Process donations and generate timely acknowledgments
  • Track donor engagement and giving trends
  • Support donor communications, including newsletters and impact updates

Events & Campaigns

  • Coordinate logistics for fundraising events, campaigns, and community outreach activities
  • Support event planning, sponsorship outreach, and follow-up
  • Assist in managing peer-to-peer and annual giving campaigns

Communications & Outreach

  • Collaborate on development-related communications (email, social media, print materials)
  • Help tell the story of the Literacy Council’s impact through donor-focused messaging
  • Represent the organization at community events and networking opportunities as needed

Administrative Support

  • Provide general administrative support to the development function
  • Track fundraising metrics and assist with reporting for leadership and board
  • Additional organizational support as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in development, nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or related field
  • 1–3 years of experience in fundraising, development, or nonprofit support preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with donor databases/CRM systems (e.g., Bloomerang, Salesforce, or similar) preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently
  • Passion for adult education, literacy, and community impact
