About NYF

Since our founding in 1990, NYF has been at the forefront of fighting for equity and empowerment for children in Nepal. We remain grounded in values of care, respect, and long-term sustainability. Most important of all, our work is led by our 100% Nepali team, who design and run programs that are developed in the context of local need, potential, and community participation.

Some of NYF’s most notable achievements include:

Freeing close to 13,000 young girls from kitchen slavery and eradicating the practice of kamlari indentured servitude, where girls (some as young as five) in the Tharu ethnic group were being sold into bonded slavery.

Developing a nationwide clinic model for treating pediatric malnutrition. This model, originated by NYF and known across the country as Nutritional Rehabilitation Homes, was later replicated by the Nepali government and other large international aid organizations like UNICEF.

Pioneering one of Nepal’s first child-focused counseling centers, bringing essential mental health support to children and families.

From providing safe homes for children at Olgapuri Children’s Village to awarding scholarships to students with disabilities and supporting Dalit families through the Caste Equality Project, NYF’s programs are empowering a rising generation. So far, NYF has supported over 110,000 children and we’re not slowing down anytime soon!
