Job Description

The Morris Animal Refuge (MAR) is looking for an organized, creative people-person who wants to join a team of animal lovers to coordinate events, help raise money, manage donors and cover administrative duties for the development team.   Events include but are not limited to puppy yogas, happy hours, and community outreach.  

Event coordination and budgeting will be the responsibility of the Development Coordinator with oversight from the Development Director. This full time position works closely with the Director of Development. Responsibilities include and works closely with Lifesaving Coordinator, and Executive Director to ensure complete communication with partner groups, sufficient volunteer and staff coverage, and proper presentation during the event. Responsibilities include:


Event Management 

  • Finding interested event sponsors and reaching out to MAR affiliates to pitch event ideas, build partnerships, and create fundraising opportunities.
  • Communicate with partner groups to effectively express fundraising goals and expectations
  • Create a plan for each event, including staffing/volunteers, arrival/pickup schedule, and animals to bring.
  • Carry out a marketing strategy for each event including print, social media, and email marketing.
  • Attend evening and weekend events, handling animals and making sure tables look clean, neat, and presentable.
  • Greet all event attendees, give accurate information regarding MAR and our programs, solicit donations, etc.
  • Lead by example with volunteers and other staff to ensure that MAR maintains a positive and professional appearance at each event.
  • Unpack, organize, and clean all materials used at an event, keeping them out of the general shelter space.
  • Maintain an events budget of expenses and revenue.
  • Manage schedule of events to maximize program success.
  • Communicate events and needs with other staff.
  • Provide support to Director of Development with annual gala



Donor Management 

  • Maintain a clean and accurate donor database
  • Ensure that all gifts are acknowledged promptly and appropriately
  • Carry out marketing campaigns to increase donor database and retain current donors
  • Manage monthly donor appreciation, including but not limited to a yearly appreciation event, merch packs and holiday cards
  • Other duties as assigned 


Qualifications and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Calendar
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and outgoing demeanor
  • Organized, responsible, and motivated to meet fundraising goals
  • Customer service oriented with the ability to work with volunteers and donors from all backgrounds
  • Must have a flexible schedule to work the occasional weekend/night
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a van
  • Creative, graphic design skills a plus
  • Experience with WordPress and Kindul a plus


Position Type

Full time. 37.5 hrs/week. Must have Saturday, Sunday, and evening availability.


Salary and Benefits

Competitive wage will be commensurate with experience, starting at $15 –17/hr
