DIRECTOR, DEVELOPMENT

We create every form of content- scripted and unscripted film and television, social media, experiential and audio. ROLE OVERVIEW:
Young audiences consume more content today than ever before, and both traditional and social platforms are exploding with new programming. We are looking for someone energized with a deep connection to culture to create and program content for the audiences of tomorrow! We are looking for an experienced sports and culture development executive to represent the UN voice of Empowerment in our programming. One who will nurture young talent voices and help package and create ideas and new formats that touch consumers across multiple mediums. A solid understanding of the social video landscape, the evolving AVOD & SVOD entertainment industry, as well as the live streaming world are required as this role is responsible for developing/selling unscripted projects to distributors (i.e. networks, SVODs, etc.)
REPORTS TO:
Head of Unscripted and Documentaries
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
•In partnership with the Head of Unscripted and Documentaries, oversee the development of UN content, from concept to series for distribution on multiple platforms
•Work with the internal team to oversee the development and production of premium, short-form, branded and original content representing the UN Voice of Empowerment in all projects
•Develop and maintain relationships with talent (writers, producers, directors, actors, authors, filmmakers, etc.)
•Identify content trends and pitch shows to ensure UN remains the leader in premium short form video and culturally connected stories
•Seek out and assess pilot proposals, scripts as needed, and pitches; Identify, solicit, evaluate new IP and development ideas/concepts for series and projects
•Provide input to business affairs on deals
•Spearhead problem solving and crisis management resolution with partners and outside producers on all creative and production issues
•Identify books and relevant source material
•Build and maintain relationships with partners, producers, directors and production companies
•Work in close collaboration with partners and show runners on editorial priorities including show rundowns; as needed: approve stories, topics, staffing above and below the line positions, building budgets/schedules and liaising with network executives
•Provide constant feedback on daily execution
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree with 10-15 years of related development experience with demonstrated roles of increasing responsibility
•At least 10 years’ experience in developing culturally connected content for a Media/Digital Media company or publication
•Deep understanding of the development and production process
•Proven and established relationships within the industry, being prepared to handle every step of development including searching for new IP, developing ideas with writers/producers, noting, packaging series, and pitching
•Proven ability for identifying unique and culturally relevant material
•Must possess an entrepreneurial spirit and want to take full advantage of this opportunity and is willing to put in the legwork to not only find content, but to see it through
•Strong relationships with agents, managers, writers and producers
•Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of management with excellent communication and writing skills
•A self-starter, who is assertive, enthusiastic and highly motivated
•Ability to multitask and manage complex projects
•Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills
•Ability to negotiate and effectively reach resolution
•Proficient in Word/Excel/Keynote
