Mission Economic Development Agency - Building on its 48-year history, and rooted in San Francisco’s Mission District, MEDA is advancing a national equity movement by building Latino prosperity, community ownership and civic power. Our direct service programs serve 8,000 individuals each year through rental and homeownership counseling, small business development, digital literacy, workforce development, financial education and free tax preparation. We also devote resources to research and evaluation, community organizing and advocacy. In the process, MEDA is helping to develop best practices in the field, and shares its model across the state and country.

 

MEDA is the lead backbone agency for the Mission Promise Neighborhood (www.missionpromise.org), a neighborhood based effort to improve education and create family economic stability for Mission District families through a cradle- to college- to career continuum of services. MEDA recently launched two new programs- Community Real Estate development and a federally certified CDFI, Fondo Adelante, to further respond to the needs of the community it serves.

 

Position Description

The Development Operations Manager is part of a six-person Development and Communications team. The Development Operations Manager will be responsible for managing a core portfolio of mid-major donors, fundraising systems, as well as writing grants for corporate funders. The Development Operations Manager is a strong project manager, writer, relationship builder, and strategic thinker who is passionate about MEDA’s mission to support the Latino community in the SF Mission District. This position is supported by a strong development team and able to work and learn from seasoned professionals in the nonprofit field. This position will manage the Development Officer role after a 90-day period. This position requires being in the MEDA office in San Francisco the majority of the time. Some remote work is permitted.

 

Grant Writing & Systems Management

●      Develops, writes, and project manages proposals and reports to corporate, foundation, and government funding sources. Monitors proposal guidelines and deadlines. Works with MEDA staff to gather financial and programmatic information and research and evaluation data. The Development Operations Manager will manage a portfolio of proposals ranging from approximately $5,000 - $75,000

●      Design programmatic strategies in collaboration with the Director of Development and management team members.

●      Initiates meetings with program staff and potential external partners to design program strategies and develop comprehensive proposals.

●      Actively participates in other MEDA fundraising activities, including galas, individual donor fundraising events, and site visits.

●      Conducts regular prospect research to support MEDA’s full scope of funding needs and develops funder cultivation strategies.

●      Working with the Development Officer, tracks and manages Grants Calendar to ensure new funding opportunities are screened and added to our tracker. Ensures proposals are executed on time.

●      Liaises with Finance team to ensure budgets and grant agreements are accurately processed and recorded

●      (Shared) Together with the development team, ensure that Salesforce grants database accurately reflects status of all grants and contains accurate documentation of requests, reports and contracts.

 

Mid-Major Donor Cultivation and Relationship Stewarding::

●      Support the Director of Development and Communications in planning and executing a year-round mid-major donor engagement program

●      Perform effective, independent prospect research with WealthEngine on current and potential major donors to gauge their giving interests and potential levels for new or sustained giving

●      Implement a moves-management protocol for a portfolio of mid-major donor and prospects

●      Ensure the effective solicitation of individual donors through research and preparation for donor meetings; solicit contributions on behalf of the organization in partnership with ED, COO, and DoD

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

●      Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.

●      Successful track record of fundraising for a nonprofit organization, with three to five years of experience in grant writing

●      Experience in writing government grants, including local, state, and federal

●      Superior verbal and written communication skills

●      Strong facilitation skills

●      Ability to effectively collect, analyze, organize, distill and present information

●      Strong networking skills and a demonstrated ability to liaise and build relationships with diverse stakeholder groups

●      Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and prioritize while working to meet multiple deadlines

●      Knowledge of community development, housing, education, and/or other core areas of MEDA’s work a significant plus

●      Ability to work both independently and also as a team player

●      Strong organization and time management skills

●      Spanish language fluency (verbal and written) a plus
