Strategic Leadership and Brand Storytelling

Develop and lead an integrated external communications strategy that leverages storytelling to unify brand marketing, community activation, and fundraising communications to expand support.
Shape and articulate City Teaching Alliance’s narrative, ensuring its work is compelling, accessible, and impactful to diverse audiences, including media, policymakers, funders, and industry stakeholders.

Monitor industry trends and policy shifts to proactively position City Teaching Alliance as a thought leader and trusted voice in education workforce development.
Collaborate with executive leadership to align marketing, communications, membership and fundraising efforts with organizational goals.
Media and Public Engagement
Drive City Teaching Alliance’s visibility and positioning through high-profile conferences, media engagement, and external-facing events that strengthen our brand and credibility.
Manage all aspects of City Teaching Alliance external events to ensure compliance with brand and design, budget, and ROI for the organization.
Provide tools, frameworks, and strategic support to Executive Directors to replicate national strategies locally and amplify their voices as fundraisers, thought leaders, and community advocates.
Cultivate strong relationships with national and local reporters to increase visibility and tell the City Teaching Alliance story in key markets.
Marketing and Development Communications
Partner with the CEO and relevant teams to craft compelling narratives that attract funders, philanthropic organizations and corporate partners.
Execute storytelling campaigns that inspire current and prospective donors, with a particular focus on mission alignment, community impact, and long-term investment.

Ensure strong funder stewardship and partner outreach through compelling communications, a consistent digital presence, and ongoing relationship-building. with organizational priorities and projects.
Serve as the primary point of contact on the national Marketing and Communications team for Executive Directors, supporting them as local champions of City Teaching Alliance in their roles as fundraisers, thought leaders, and community advocates.

Provide strategic guidance, messaging support, and tools to amplify the Executive
Director’s voice and impact in local markets.
Collaborate across departments to ensure that all external-facing messaging reflects our mission, equity commitments, and strategic priorities.
Build relationships with local partners, peer organizations, media, and influencers to elevate City Teaching Alliance’s voice in the public sphere.
Organizational Stewardship
In addition to the key responsibilities noted above, you will be asked to participate in activities that serve to support the organization overall. Some examples of these activities include:
Final interview days
Working groups and committees
Recruitment and selection support
Organization-wide retreat planning and facilitation

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
 7+ years’ experience in strategic communications, nonprofit marketing, and/or philanthropic storytelling preferred.
Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills with an eye for narrative, design, and brand alignment.

Strong experience with digital tools including Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, SEO/SEM best practices, and social media platforms.
Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships and lead with empathy, clarity, and vision.
Highly organized, proactive, and adaptable - comfortable juggling multiple priorities and deadlines.

Ability to work effectively with people of all backgrounds and safeguard confidential information. Experience working across departments and/or in remote teams.
Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to City Teaching Alliance’s mission.

The Director of Communications and Regional Engagement is a key cross-functional leader who sits on the Marketing and Communications team. The incumbent will amplify City Teaching Alliance’s brand, deepen community engagement, and support fundraising efforts through strategic storytelling in traditional and digital media.

 

Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, this role will increase regional brand visibility and trust, grow thought leadership and influence across the organization, manage the Marketing Manager, and build compelling narratives that connect with funders, partners, and the broader public.
