Director of Development

The Director of Development is responsible for developing relationships with external partners including donors and board members, advancing strong ties within the community to drive revenue into the organization. This is a FT, in person role that reports to the Chief of Staff.

The responsibilities of the Director of Development are as follows: Core Job Duties and Responsibilities

· Develop a major donor strategy to identify, cultivate, and recruit new major donors including corporations and individuals

· Secure and maintain grant funding from multiple private and federal funding sources

· Develop clear action plans and timelines to drive fundraising activities to meet development goals

· Strengthen ties with existing supporters, re-connect with former supporters, and develop a solid plan for identifying and incorporating new donors

· Create effective strategic plans for marketing and development strategies

· Oversee website and social media

· Plan and execute fundraising events

· Supervise at two manager level team members (Senior Grants Manager & Senior Manager of Corporate & Community Relations and lead department in future hires and decision making

· Bottom Line: Be accountable for securing $2million in annual revenue via multiple streams (public & private grants, corporate donations & sponsorships, individual donations, and event revenue), with priority of time and attention given to the largest funding streams

Qualifications

· Grant writing, fundraising and special events experience required

· Ability to lead a team of development professionals to advance the goals of fundraising, communications, and grant writing.

· Ability to plan long-term strategy for the organization and represent the organization’s mission and goals through communication efforts

· Must have a deep understanding of cultivating relationships with individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations

· Experience to manage the grant writing process for foundations, city, state, and federal grants

· Experience working within and raising funds in the nonprofit sector

· Adept at researching, identifying, and cultivating foundations, corporations, civic and religious organizations, and individuals

· Extremely organized with an ability to work well under pressure, synthesize information, and communicate in a compelling and succinct matter

· Solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants; proof of quantifiable fundraising success throughout career

· A high-level of computer literacy required; experience with Salesforce a plus

· Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative computer software applications

· Social media and marketing skills required

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree and basic knowledge of human trafficking; Master’s degree preferred

· Proven self-starter with a strong desire to take initiative

· Proven ability to work with teams and manage volunteer leaders, vendors, and fellow staff to execute events and meet or exceed project/event goals

· Ability to maintain positive and professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders

· Experience managing multiple concurrent tasks and organizing work to ensure quality outcomes and adherence to deadlines

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, strategic thinking and planning skills, and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office computer software applications

· Experience with and knowledge of Web-based communication and fundraising databases

Other Qualifications

· Able to work evenings and weekends throughout the year as needed

· Position requires travel within the greater Houston region; must have reliable transportation. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
