The Director of People and Culture reports to the Assistant Vice Provost of Administration for UW Continuum College and leads several teams with people-driven missions. The reach of this role extends broadly within our department and will improve our organizational culture with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
Advise on people-first strategies in support of Continuum’s annual strategic planning process, with a 3-5 year strategic planning focus
Lead highly visible initiatives with broad organizational impact, such as creating a strategic education approach for our employees
Provide direct and indirect leadership to our people-centered teams, including human resources, recruitment, payroll, facilities, and registration services
Leverage collaboration and effective communication to lead through change
Organizational Culture
Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion work within Continuum, in partnership with DEI committees, supervisors, consultants, and other leaders.
Partner with HR and Market Research staff to leverage survey instruments to maintain a pulse on our organizational health
Work with leadership and supervisors on strategies to improve our organizational culture, the health and wellbeing of our colleagues, and an environment that supports staff retention
Track and communicate our strategies for improving our organizational culture
Leverage change management strategies to support an organization that continually changes in pursuit of our educational mission
Ensure training and strategic development of staff over time
Encourage and enable the best from our colleagues, teams, and committees
Lead/direct change management activities to support a culture of growth and development throughout the organization.
Supervision
Embrace and encourage a forward-thinking service-oriented culture across Continuum’s People teams
Provide staff with clear goals and timelines, and remove obstacles to ensure projects are completed on time
Enable results through others by demonstrating formal and influence-based leadership
Meet frequently with staff to enable communication and ensure day-to-day operations and project-based work are progressing as planned and goals are met
Train and delegate work; require cross-training, procedural documentation, and internal auditing; and prevent single points of failure
Ensure accuracy of job descriptions, hire, onboard, and mentor staff, provide opportunities for continued learning and skill development, complete performance appraisals, and recommend staff separations
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Master of Public or Business Administration or related degree and five years of applicable experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with employee relations to include training, performance management, and improvement
