The Director of Policy and Partnerships leads policy, advocacy, and partnership development for PIQE. The Director will be responsible for developing and driving proactive state and regional policy and advocacy within the parameters of PIQE’s Policy Platform. Working with a wide range of stakeholders, the director will build engagement and support of family engagement initiatives and support investment in regional, state and national levels. The Director’s role will support and lead the implementation of the strategic plan goals and work strategically with the External Relations team, the regional Executive Directors to build and strengthen partnerships, policy and advocacy efforts across selected regions. Director reports to the Vice President of External Relations and will manage staff remotely.
General Responsibilities
Support and work alongside the V.P. of External Relations, the Director will engage in state, legislative advocacy as well as develop and enhance relationships with local governments, administrative agencies, public and private organizations. The Director will collaborate inter-departmentally to ensure integrated advocacy initiatives and robust and strategic partnership development aligned to the strategic plan.
Specific Responsibilities
- Assist and support V.P. of External Relations and CEO to identify and articulate strategic issue priorities and to keep policy work focused on those priorities.
- Work with school and community partners and civic leaders through a variety of activities to
share and enhance family engagement initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze selected federal, state and local legislation and budgets to assess impact
on families and communities.
- Analyze legislation aligned to the Policy Framework; maintain bill tracking database and
legislative hearing schedule.
- Lead and/or provide support for PIQE-led coalitions and working groups.
- Educate the public and policy makers on family engagement issues and priorities.
- Engage current and new partners including families, business and community leaders, partner
organizations, funders and donors.
- Support External Relations team in coordination and execution of communications strategy for advocacy efforts.
- Assist in preparing and delivering written and oral testimony, and support partner organizations in development and delivery of testimony aligned to the policy framework and priorities.
- Provide conceptual and writing assistance with grant proposals and reports.
- Conduct issue-related research and analysis and draft supporting material including fact sheets, issue papers, talking points, reports, op-eds, and blogs.
- Coordinate with community engagement specialist and regional executive directors to engage grassroots activists in advocacy efforts.
- Represent the organization at coalition meetings, policy work groups, external events and conferences.
- Support family leadership development to participate in advocacy and influence activities in alignment with the strategic plan.
- Manage staff remotely.

- Master’s degree in Public Policy, International Studies, Communications, or related field or 5-10 years related professional work experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, including online communications and social media.
- Working knowledge of legislative process and experience working with elected officials
- Ability to multitask and meet project deadlines
- Experience interacting effectively with donors and stakeholders.
- Proactive, participative work style.
- Ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize competing timelines and projects under limited time constraints.
Preferred skills
- Experience working with social media platforms.
- Experience working in State education initiatives including California Department of Education, districts)
- Proficiency in Spanish.
