Job Description

Director of Training

The National Legal Advocacy Network seeks a full-time Director of Training to expand our work democratizing the law and empowering low-wage workers to change their workplaces and communities.

Who We Are:

The National Legal Advocacy Network (NLAN) is a national legal, non-profit organization that seeks to shift the balance of power towards greater equity in our economy and society by working with low-wage workers to exercise their legal rights and realize their collective power, developing the leadership of working-class people, resourcing worker-led organizations fighting for racial and economic justice, publicly demonstrating the consequences of low-road employment practices and innovating proactive policy solutions to build worker power and create systemic change.

Our work employs 3 core strategies:

  1. Leadership Development: developing and providing legal empowerment trainings for low-wage workers so they can understand their rights, conduct peer to peer education and exercise greater control over their working conditions; training lawyers and legal organizations in how to best support efforts to build worker power; and creating opportunities for people of color, LGBTQ+ and working-class people in the legal profession.
  2. Partnership with Worker-Led Organizations: directly partnering with worker organizations to design, launch and win hybrid law and organizing campaigns; creating and maintaining a national legal referral network that is available to support worker centers and their members; conducting know your right trainings and legal clinics; providing policy and legislative support; and working with organizations to develop and implement best practices to protect organizations from opposition attacks.
  3. Strategic Legal Enforcement: engaging in impact litigation; providing legislative support for policy campaigns led by worker organizations; and developing and implementing co-enforcement schemes with enforcement agencies like the EEOC, NLRB or Attorney General’s offices.
