Job Description:

The Director will support clients and consultants with ongoing regulatory and policy strategy as our clients’ needs expand in a changing environment that includes expanding challenges in the health IT space, payment reform, measuring quality of care, and achieving cost efficiencies in care delivery.

The ideal candidate will bring deep subject-matter expertise and a demonstrated ability to draft persuasive, technically rigorous comment letters that influence agency policymaking. The Director should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, leading project teams, managing multiple project deadlines, having independent problem solving skills, having strong writing skills, and can work collaboratively in a team environment.

As a Director on the regulatory and policy team, you will provide subject-matter knowledge on information sharing, interoperability, AI in healthcare, coding and payment policy, and other related issues impacting healthcare sectors including dialysis companies, health IT companies, trade organizations, and health systems.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the regulatory and policy team to solve complex client problems and engage clients with novel regulatory solutions and ideas 

  • Lead regulatory and policy project work, including reviewing relevant regulations, guidance and other agency materials, identifying areas for comment and drafting same 

  • Create long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines 

  • Create strategic and tactical recommendations for clients to ensure client objectives are optimally addressed through the regulatory processes 

  • Monitor, digest, and inform team members of relevant health policy changes 

  • Understand analyses and insights of other entities (e.g., CMS, MEDPAC, OIG, ASTP) 

  • Present qualitative and quantitative results to both technical and nontechnical audiences in formats 

  • Directly interact with clients and other stakeholders, either in person, via teleconference or email  

  • Support meetings with regulators, industry stakeholders, and coalitions as needed 

  • Participate in firm business development and marketing activities including proposal and pitch writing, product development, relationship building, drafting of articles, and other activities as requested 

  • Work with other McDermott+ staff as part of a cross-functional team to deliver results to clients 

Job Specifications:

  • Advanced degree in law, public policy, public health, or a related field  
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with healthcare specific regulatory experience, including experience working at or engaging directly with federal or state regulatory agencies 
  • A strong interest in and foundational knowledge of Medicare payment systems 
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously 
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills 
  • Familiarity with major healthcare industry stakeholders (associations, advocates, and government agencies)

     Target Hiring Range $175,000 - $224,000
Please note that quoted salary ranges are not guarantees of what final salary offers may be. Base pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that MWE provides to compensate and recognize our staff professionals for their work. Full time positions are eligible for a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
