Tonko, Paul - Rep.
Congressman Paul Tonko is a progressive democrat representing New York’s Capital Region in Congress. Congressman Tonko serves as the Ranking Member of the Environment Subcommittee, where he crafts legislation to tackle climate change and transition our economy to net-zero carbon emissions. In addition to his work on climate, Congressman Tonko is a champion for addressing our nation’s mental health and substance use challenges, including work on suicide prevention and the opioid epidemic. An engineer by training, Congressman Tonko works in Congress to find creative ways to solve some of America’s most challenging problems.

What you’d do:
The District Aide, who will be based in our Albany, NY office, and report to the District Operations Manager and the District Director, will be responsible for the following:
Greeting and assisting visitors
Answering the office phones
Documenting caller and visitor opinions with all relevant contact/identifying information in office’s Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system
Coordinating with the District Operations Manager to process invitations and appearance requests in a timely manner
Ensuring that requests for assistance are directed to the appropriate staff member in a timely manner
Processing all physical mail sent to the Albany District Office, and, on occasion, to other District Offices
Maintaining the office voicemail, delivers messages, mail, deliveries and faxes to appropriate staff, and coordinates the Albany District Office mail program
Assisting persons who have appointments with the Congressman and working closely with the District Operations Manager and the District Director to ensure that the Congressman’s appointments are on time
Assisting with ordering office supplies and maintains basic upkeep of office and equipment
Managing office recycling program
Managing the District office internship program, including recruiting, hiring, training, day-to-day management, work product review, and feedback
Processing commendation requests, including proclamations, letters and certificates, in a timely manner
Assisting District Director, Grants Coordinator and Constituent Representatives in drafting and sending correspondence to constituents and federal agencies as needed
Assisting Grants Coordinator in publicizing federal grant opportunities
Assisting in various office outreach efforts, including sending invitations, making phone calls, maintaining lists of event attendees, and working with staff to develop and maintain current lists of core constituencies and other groups
Assisting with administrative tasks associated with the Congressional Art Competition, Congressional App Challenge and Academy Nominations Process
Writing summaries of meetings taken by the Congressman and/or staff and delivers them to the appropriate staff in a timely fashion
Attending events with and on behalf of the Congressman across the district, as necessary
Performing other duties as assigned.

The salary for this position is $51,000.
