Job Description

State Senator Carol Alvarado is seeking a full-time district aide in her Houston office located on

the southeast side of Houston.


Job Description

The district aide will serve as the senator’s liaison with constituents, community organizations and other stakeholders in Texas Senate District 6 as well as with state agencies, interest groups and other legislative offices. Candidates must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to multi-task, meet critical deadlines and understand constituent needs to assist them in obtaining state services. The district aide will also help plan, organize and facilitate district events; represent the senator at designated meetings and events; and other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Strong professional ethics, mature judgment and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to provide transportation around the district
  • Clear, concise communication skills with an emphasis on writing
  • Research competence and skills other than use of internet search engines
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • Professional appearance and personality
  • Ability to work well with others in a close office environment
  • Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office programs, Dropbox, iPad/iPhone applications

and all social media platforms

  • Spanish fluency strongly preferred


Salary

This is a salaried position ranging from $48,000 to $60,000 a year, commensurate with experience. In addition to salary, the Texas Senate provides all employees with competitive benefits, including employer-provided healthcare, automatic vacation and sick leave, and the ability to earn compensatory time.
