State Representative Norma Hernandez is seeking a full-time District Director to manage office operations including managing casework, constituent services, and outreach, to act as a liaison between Representative Norma Hernandez’s office, other elected officials, community groups, and local stakeholders, to represent the Representative as needed to local groups and at local events, and to plan and execute constituent outreach events. The District Director will also play a critical role in developing strategies within the district. 


Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Calendar and Google Drive
  • Professional demeanor, ability to adapt, and ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others and members of the public
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience working for federal, state, or local officials.


Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a primary point of phone and email contact for community partners, maintain oversight on office phone and email systems, and maintain constituent casework files.
  • Assist constituents with casework, meaning issues where constituents need assistance navigating government programs or services.
  • Plan and execute constituent outreach events and opportunities.
  • Execution (Oversight) of Newsletter with the support of District staff.
  • Maintain and update office Website. 
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings and manage the Representative’s calendar in conjunction with the Springfield office.
  • Maintain office budget, submit payment vouchers, and track inventory and order office supplies.
  • Serve as liaison between the Representative’s office and other elected officials and government agencies.
  • Supporting the Youth program initiatives and other programs created. 
  • As needed, attend meetings and events on behalf of the Representative and staff events such as satellite office hours or other constituent outreach events.
  • Training and managing other staff members.
  • Onboarding, training and managing Summer interns that work in person.
  • Support with talking points for public speaking events. 
  • Other tasks as assigned.
