Budgeted Salary Range:


$65,000 - $70,000 annually, based on a 37.5-hour work week, dependent on background and experience.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:


The DEI Senior Manager primary responsibility will be to lead the PDPL program. PDPL is United Way’s inclusive nonprofit board development program focused on preparing leaders at all levels with diverse lived experiences to serve on nonprofit boards. Responsibilities include managing the day-to-day operations and driving the advancement of PDPL and its mission to ensure nonprofit boards reflect the communities they serve.

In addition, this role will manage the organization’s Internal Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and support the Vice President/Chief People & Equity Officer in implementing workplace culture strategies to foster an inclusive environment for all staff.

PDPL Leadership Program (75%):

  • Lead the planning, execution and evaluation of the PDPL nonprofit board development program, ensuring alignment with the mission of the program, organization and participant needs.
  • Orchestrate all logistics for recruitment, cohort selection, workshops, meetings, and special events, creating a vibrant, positive, and inclusive environment for participants, partners, and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to update program materials as needed and identify creative strategies to promote the program via social media and United Way platforms, amplifying PDPL’s reach and impact.
  • Maintain and curate, as needed, program materials, resources and communications relevant to the unique needs of leaders from diverse lived experiences.
  • Facilitate meetings and interactive workshops designed to foster leadership growth and development, increased awareness of the nonprofit sector and board service.
  • Provide timely coaching, guidance, feedback and resources to leaders during the program to support their leadership effectiveness and preparation for board service.
  • Lead ongoing program evaluation for continuous improvement and identify strategies to advance the goals of the program, prepare leaders for board service to support increased nonprofit board diversity.
  • Grow and sustain strong internal and external relationships to elevate PDPL’s visibility; regularly represent the program at community events and engage key stakeholders such as PDPL alumni, volunteers / board members and corporate and community partners.
  • Assist PDPL participants and graduates in securing board placements. Develop and manage a sustainable system to track and monitor board placement for participants and alumni.
  • Identify and track insightful program metrics and outcomes, preparing reports and recommendations to inform leadership decisions and maximize program effectiveness.
  • Create and manage alumni engagement opportunities, collaborate with resource development staff to inspire increased donor engagement and long-term involvement in PDPL’s mission.
  • Regularly leverage the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to expertly manage communications to and contact information for PDPL alumni and United Way’s board-level DEI Committee members, driving efficiency and strategic outreach.

Internal & External DEI Efforts (25%):

  • Chair and provide direction to the Internal DEI Committee; includes engaging committee members to plan United Way’s involvement and representation in cultural community events (i.e. PRIDE March, Black Men’s Wellness Day, Latino Festival, etc.) and assisting committee members with monthly DEI roundtable planning.
  • Coordinate logistics for quarterly board-level DEI Committee meetings; includes scheduling of meetings and capturing meeting minutes.
  • Assist the Chief People & Equity Officer to implement organization-wide DEI strategies in alignment with UWCO’s Culture Pillars, DEI Dashboard and DEI related employee and volunteer training.
  • Stay current with best practices in diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging and leadership development and integrate new approaches into internal and external efforts.
  • Collaborate with Chief People & Equity Officer to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion into organizational decision-making and processes, maximizing employee engagement, development and board diversity.
  • Keep Chief People & Equity Officer abreast of community engagement, PDPL program progress and internal DEI activities including cross departmental efforts.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but will support the Vice President & Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer with interns and volunteers as needed.
  • Support responsibilities include planning, scheduling, directing and monitoring volunteer and intern work, in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable laws:
    • Establish department and individual goals; interview, hire & train direct report(s).
    • Evaluate performance and provide training and development as needed.
    • Maintain regular communication, addressing complaints/concerns and resolving issues that arise.
    • Create and foster a psychologically safe environment for team members to grow and enjoy the work they are doing.

Work Environment:


This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers and filing cabinets.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to type, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Expected Work Hours:


This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Flexible daily hours may be available year-round. Daily work schedule and any flextime hours must be approved by the department head.


Travel:


Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected for training and/or conferences.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 2 years of related experience required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in implementing diversity, equity and inclusion activities.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of program management experience required.
  • Experience leading an employee resource group preferred.
  • Supervisory and/or coaching experience required.
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion certification(s) preferred.
