Preferred Location: Portland, Oregon (PERIOD. Headquarters). Remote applicants will be considered. Frequent travel (up to twice a month) to Portland is required initially.

The Role: Executive Director
PERIOD. is seeking a visionary and grounded Executive Director to lead our next chapter of growth, strategy, and impact. This role is not about commanding the spotlight — it is about elevating and resourcing the youth activists and organizers at the heart of our mission. The ED currently oversees a passionate, hard-working, and deeply dedicated team of ten individuals, including two directors.
The ED will be a strategic fundraiser, systems-builder, and champion of shared power. They will lead organizational strategy and culture, drive fundraising and revenue generation, steward staff and board relationships, mentor and cultivate the next wave of generational leaders across a youth centered movement, consistently streamline operations, and serve as a thoughtful public presence when needed.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, resilient, and visionary leader, rooted in equity and movement work, with a deep belief in youth power, a proven track record of fundraising success, and the ability to balance rapid decision-making with participatory leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as the chief strategist and executive leader, ensuring alignment with PERIOD.’s mission, vision, and values.
- Oversee operational, financial, and governance health of the organization.
- Build and maintain a values-aligned, resilient, and accountable organizational culture that uplifts youth voices.
- Collaborate closely with youth leaders, staff, and board to shape and deliver long-term strategic plans.
Fundraising & Development
- Develop and manage the organization’s annual budget in alignment with strategic priorities.
- Build and maintain a robust development strategy that supports annual growth and sustainability.
- Secure major partnerships and gifts (six-figures and above) from individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Represent the organization to funders and sponsors; lead high-level pitches and donor cultivation.
- Collaborate with the Director of Partnerships on fundraising strategy, execution, and relationship management.
Movement & Youth leadership
- Center and elevate youth leadership at all levels of strategic decision-making.
- Share power across operational and program teams; mentor and support early-career staff and activist development.
- Collaborate with grassroots activists, coalition partners, government officials, and campaign leaders in alignment with PERIOD.’s mission
- Maintain PERIOD. position as a thought leader in the broader intersection of menstrual health, reproductive justice, gender equity, and youth activism, helping shape public discourse, influence policy, legislation, and movement-wide priorities.
Public Engagement & Advocacy
- Serve as a mission-centered spokesperson, strategically stepping into public and media-facing moments when it elevates the organization’s goals, partnerships, or fundraising efforts.
- Use public presence strategically — uplifting the mission, not the individual.
- Guide the organization through critical public and political moments with integrity and clarity.

What You Bring

- Familiarity with or passion for menstrual equity, reproductive justice, public health, gender justice, and/or youth advocacy.
- Demonstrated direct management and leadership of teams and individuals in nonprofit, advocacy, philanthropic, or political campaign settings.
- Experience leading teams through strategic growth, transition, and/or transformation with measurable results.
- Demonstrated experience leading diverse,youth-centered, and intergenerational teams with inclusive, equity-driven leadership.
- Proven fundraising success, including securing and managing large gifts and partnerships.
- Strong public communication skills and the ability to lead and speak with confidence and poise in both high-visibility and behind the scenes leadership roles.
- Comfort and expertise navigating complex and sensitive issues with political acumen and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to build and maintain strong cross-sector relationships,with grassroots partners, government officials, and corporate allies, rooted in trust and an aptitude to find shared values.
- Background in organizing, campaigns, or movement-building is strongly preferred.
