About the Washington, D.C. Office of the Governor and the New York State Executive Chamber

The Washington, D.C. Office of the Governor serves as the primary liaison between New York State and the federal government, advocating on behalf of state agencies and ensuring New York’s interests are represented at the national level. The office also facilitates communication and collaboration between state and local governments and engages with non-governmental organizations to advance advocacy efforts.


About the Role

The Washington, D.C. Office of New York State Governor Kathy Hochul is seeking motivated and detail-oriented Federal Policy Interns for the Summer 2026 term. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in federal policy and intergovernmental relations, assisting in the development and execution of strategies across a wide range of policy areas, including energy, environment, healthcare, economic development, housing, transportation, homeland security, military affairs, trade, and education. Interns will have the chance to work closely with policy staff, conduct research, draft memos and reports, track hearings, and support various ongoing initiatives. Additionally, interns will be involved in administrative tasks that contribute to the efficient operation of the office. This position offers a substantive experience in federal-state relations, providing interns with a deep understanding of how federal policies impact state governance.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Have a keen interest in federal-state relations and intergovernmental policy.
  • Be passionate about New York State’s policies and the work of the current administration.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and initiative.
  • Be capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be highly organized, with the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Work well both independently and in a team environment.
  • Show creativity and innovative thinking in solving challenges.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).


Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university.
  • At least Sophomore standing if enrolled in an undergraduate institution.
