Field Representative
Barrington or Jersey City, New Jersey
Senator Andy Kim seeks a Field Representative to serve as a public-facing community representative to constituents and organizations. The Field Representative acts as a liaison for the Senator to government, community and constituent groups and leaders in assigned geographic or issue areas around the state. The ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of his/her duties is essential.
This position will start by reporting to offices in Barrington OR Jersey City and may be transferred to a new office to be announced in 2026.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acts as a field representative for the Senator within assigned geographic or issue areas;
- Assists the Senator in planning and implementing legislative strategies in the state;
- Monitors developments, opinions and concerns of government, community and constituent groups and leaders;
- Accompanies the Senator on travel in assigned geographic areas or relating to assigned issue areas;
- Attends civic meetings, community events and other events to represent the Senator in his absence, including speaking on behalf of the Senator/office, participating meaningfully in policy discussions, strategic planning, and execution;
- Remains abreast of current legislative and non-legislative issues relating to assigned geographic or issue areas; and
- Evaluates the need, schedules, and attends meetings with representatives of federal, state and local agencies to fulfill the Senator’s legislative agenda, and address constituents’ concerns.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Regular, predictable attendance and punctuality required for performance of duties.
- Communicate effectively with Senator and office staff, other government offices, community groups, outside organizations, constituents, and others.
- Travel required to attend events and meetings around New Jersey as necessary for performance of duties.
- Must be able to prioritize and perform duties under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Regularly uses typical office equipment, software programs, and methods of communication, including, for example, a computer, e-mail, telephone, smartphone, etc.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Prior 1-3 years relevant experience.
- Prior experience in community organizing
- Work with federal, state or local government
- Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
- Bilingualism is a plus.
